      ColTheMedik

      By SarahPVC, in DJ Profiles,

Biography:  ColTheMedik used to go to clubs like Tin Tins and Sundissential years ago and was always making a nuisance of himself in the DJ booth.  He made a point of watching and learning from all the great djs of that time i.e.  Andy Farley, Tony De Vit and Paul Kershaw and tried to learn as much as possible about djing before he took to the turntables himself.
He took up his quest to become a hardhouse DJ around 3 1/2 years ago.  He got his first set of decks in September 1999 as a present from his brother and it wasn't long till he was playing for mates at party's and the like.  Infact!  Believe it or not, he played his first gig 3 months after first starting to a crowd of 500 at a rave in a skatepark in Birmingham on millenium night.
He has to say that after having played to a crowd of 500 at such an early stage of his djing career, he was well and truly hooked and decided then to make it one of his goals to play at both his two favourite clubs. (Sundissential and Tin Tins)  He is happy to say he has played at both those clubs now.
His first big break came in 2000 when he was intoduced to the promoter of CRUNCH.  The guy had never heard him play before, never mind not having met him before.  He took a risk on him and gave him residency playing warm up sets.  Thanks to him Col was able to get himself recognised in Birmingham.  He was soon playing at alot of the hardhouse clubs in the midlands and now has residencies at SHAFT, Saturday SHAFT, AFTERSSENTIAL and held a residency at CRUNCH.
About a year ago he was given the opportunity to run his own night called SHAFT  in Birmingham at Decades Musik Bar. He was totally new to the whole promotion side of things so it was definately an up hill struggle for him, especially doing it on his own with no promotional experience.  Luckily he was introduced to the lads from REAL FM (Toni De Leon, Projek K, Padge and CID) They jumped onboard and gave him much needed help and advice.  Thanks to the help of them and his co-promoter Mark H. Shaft has now moved on to bigger and better things and is without a doubt a name that people in Birmingham and all over clubland associate with the hardhouse scene.
Music Policy:   He would describe his style as tough chunky hard trance and hard house with a bit of acid techno thrown in at the end of his sets every now and then.  He has got to say that his mixing style is never the same week in week out.  He is a great believer in always trying to better himself and try new techniques and styles.  His sets do vary enormously. However!  The majority of the time he starts of trancey and proggresively get faster and harder as the minutes tick away and finds this works wonders with the crowd.
He has a unique and natural ability to interact with the clubbers.  It's important as a  DJ to get the vibe and atmosphere right in a club.

      DJ Style: Techno, Progressive
Diana the Queen of East-Europe. A beautiful, sensual, seductive woman, but as well  extremely talented.Tricky and gently she try to win a public favour. Her style its an unique mix of pumping techno and tribal, but at present in her energetic sets clearer and clearer you can hear fascination of progressive. Sounds coming out from speakers, when charming Diana stands behind the decks, imperceptibly win audiences favour gradually leading the dance-floor to ecstasy. Her music its a huge dose of energetic rhythms, which without any difficulties spin everyone to the end of its tether. Her music style cant be pigeonhole, because in her sets hard sometimes even aggressive beat alternates with often soft vocal, trance melody and enthusiastic tribal interlude. Skilfully she manage to smuggle into the technical music progressive house tones.
Her rise to fame starts in the day that she discovered the dance scene. It transformed her into an instant party animal and to remind herself of wild nights out, she soon decided to purchase some decks and try a djing.
She was taking her first steps on club scene in 1997 in Amsterdam, where she left bored of lifes monotony in her home town Bytom. She quickly wangled into a music world, she met a lot of famous Djs , who showed her tricks of the dj trade. She made her debut in Amsterdam clubs Roxy and Sinners In Heaven. One day she packed her clothes and records in one suitcase and she flew to Ibiza, where she decided to continue her adventures with turntables. Self - confident she went to one of the clubs and she announced to the manager that she wanted to play there. He sent her away empty-handed, but Diana didnt give up. Thanks to help of couple of friends she landed in KM5 Club, where in short time she became the Sundays evening star. Ibiza came to like Dianas hot and  energetic sets, thanks to whom she became a resident of several parties in the best clubs on the island: firstly in Pacha Zenith and later in Amnesia.
After dj adventures in Spain Diana came back to Poland. She lived in Poznan, where she set up an artistic agency Flying House Communications and she started to organize serial parties with foreign djs on the 18th floor of the Academy of Economics. At the beginning club audience from Poznan and later from entire Poland came to love her for skilful building of music tension, innovative, technical, hard and inspiring to dance sets. Diana quickly turned up in the top of the best national djs, becoming inseparable part of Polish club culture. She played with such celebrities like Carl Cox, Timo Maas, Paul van Dyk, Sven Vth, Chris Liebing, Marco Bailey, Rush, Marco Lenzi or Marco Nasty. Its worth to mention that any essential techno festival in Poland, like famed Creamfields, cant take place without her.
Lots of Polish Djs can envy Diana representing Poland on international arena, among other things in Hungary, Czech, Croatia, Holland, Spain and Slovakia and as befits a woman always gracefully and always at the highest dj form. She is a resident on Mayday festival, also abroad. At the beginning of April 2004 Diana as the only one Pole played on Mayday in Budapest for the second time. In 2005 she performed also on German edition of Mayday and will play in the Nature One Germany and Poland.

      DJane Meg

      By SarahPVC, in DJ Profiles,

      Name: Maria Eugenia Gonzalez
      Birth Year: 1982
      Currently stays: Caracas  Venezuela
Works as: DJane, Producer, Remixer, Model
      Music Style: Minimal, Electro, Tech-House
Mara, alias DJane Meg, was born 1982 in Caracas (Venezuela). Meg was interested in music from the early start. At the age of 9, she started in the school of Classic Ballet Ana Maria Correa. Later she began to study contemporary dance and ballet at  El Ateneo de Caracas and El Teresa Carreo.
Electronic Music and Clubbing were in her blood from a teenie age on and she decided early to follow this path. Her biggest influence was watching some of Venezuela Top DJs or big names like Deep Dish, Timo Maas, David Morales or Satoshi Tomiie, performing in some of Caracas top clubs.  With 21 years she decided to express music through the vanguardism and technology. Taking the art from the mixture and the electronic production as a form of artistic and musical expression. At the same time she developed her studies of social communication at the Santa Marias University.
DJ Meg had her fist experience as DJane in the DJ School in Caracas  Venezuela, and later she dedicated herself to the production under the management and guidance of DJ and Producer Tony Funichelly.
In the past three years since she started djing, Meg has built up a lot of experience in many different forms of house music: Club, Vocal, Minimal, Acid, Tech and Electro-House. Her experience grew steadily as she played at parties and clubs in Caracas and later on in Maracay. Playing in different Radio and TV-Shows that makes her also popular in the neighbour countries. After a while she caught the eye of cigarettes and alcohol companies that booked her for different promotion tours, this helped her also to get more bookings in Colombia and in Panama as first DJane from Venezuela.
Meg is a beautiful and talented woman with an amazing energy behind the decks: When I'm spinning, the major influence is the vibe coming from the dancing crowd on the floor. So I just listen to the feeling, and put my records on. That's why I never pick out my records before, to play them in a prefixed order.
Today she is one of the 5 best DJs in Venezuela, her ranking as No. 4 in the Venezuela Top DJ Awards 2005 demonstrate her success. For 2006 she plans to conquist Latin America and does her first expierince in Europe.

GREG DOWNEY is one of the freshest new talents emerging onto the club scene at the moment.   Greg has been DJing for 4 years now at various clubs in and around Belfast where he grew up.  He has also spent three seasons out in Ibiza.  Throughout this time, Greg has played for Gatecrasher at Space, Euphoria at Eden and several other events including Sundissential and Storm.  Very recently, he played for MTV at their Medonism Festival in Ibiza.  Greg also ran his own successful night Pulse on the island for two seasons.
Greg has been very successful in competitions he has entered.  He won the prestigious DJ competition held by superclub Eden, resulting in him being given a set after Radio 1s very own Dave Pearce.  Recently he won yet another, Irelands BBM Magazine DJ Competition.  Greg was given a full write up/interview in the magazine and tipped to be one of the next big DJs to come out of Ireland.  Greg has also been featured in the Sunday Life, Irelands largest newspaper and in Mixmag as a DJ to look out for.
Having already built up a strong following in Ireland, Greg is now starting to launch his career in England where he is resident for Scream at The Station in Bristol, and with forthcoming dates all over the UK and Ireland, Greg is going from strength to strength..
Greg has recently secured his own weekend slot on Fire 107.6 fm based in the south of England, bringing his sound onto the radio.
Greg is also a keen producer.  Look out for his new track CLIMATE which was produced in collaboration with Belfast artists D.A.S.K.  This track has been causing quite a stir everywhere he has been playing recently, and from early reactions looks set to be very successful.
Music Policy: His style combines underground and uplifting trance with a touch of techno. From: Belfast Year of birth: 1980                  Management Agency: None Residency: Scream Bookings Contact: @SarahPVC No. of records: 2,000  Started playing: 1997 All time top 3 tunes:  1. Prodigy: No Good (Start The Dance) For me, this was my most influential tune.  I was only fourteen when I first heard it and it got me hooked on serious dance music.  Definitely one of the most cutting edge tracks ever made. 2. DJ Misjah and Tim Access This is another golden oldie that never leaves my box.  It has a really tuff acidy sound which was well before its time and it still does damage when I play it today. 3.  Rank 1 The Citrus Juicer Might seem like a bit of an odd choice but this is an old trancer from Rank 1 before they got massive and in my opinion its one of the best trance tracks ever made.  Its quite different but its a real stormer. Worst DJing moment: It has to be the second time I ever played out.  I was only 17 and I went to start off my set, I faded out the other DJs last tune and went to start my first record.  I cued it up and let it play only to realise that the needle was knackered and it skated right across the tune making the worst noise you could imagine.  It was the jeers and laughs though that put the icing on the cake though!! Would most like to play: Main Room, Amnesia, Ibiza Most enjoyable set you've played: There are two that stick in my head;   The first was on my 20th birthday when I played at the closing party of Euphoria at Eden in Ibiza 2000.  I came on after Dave Pearce, the place was packed and everyone was going mad.  I was nervous because that was the first really big club that I played in but I loved it. The second was on New Years Eve just past.  I was playing at The Coach in Ireland and the atmosphere is amazing.  You wont play to a better crowd than the people who go there and its definitely one of the best clubs I have ever played at When you're not DJing you're: in the studio making tracks Favourite DJ: Guy Ornadel Favourite Venue: Amnesia Ibiza  Favourite Promotion: Gatecrasher Favourite Producer: Push Favourite Label: I dont really have a favourite label but I think Bonzai have been the most consistent over the last year. Biggest Influence: As far as DJing goes, one of my friends Stevie McMaster.  A top DJ who has definitely taught me a thing or two. Drink: Good old pints of Stella!  I love beer but I have also been known to hit the vodka when Im full up with beer! Non-music pastime: A night in with my fiance and a bottle of wine. Guy Hornsby

      By SarahPVC, in DJ Profiles,

Guy Hornsby has been DJing in and around London for close to 3 years after first putting needle to vinyl in Dec '99. Brought up on the house sound of the north in Sheffield in the first half of the 90s, he has always been a dedicated music lover and that comes across in his mixing style and personality behind the decks. A career starting in the bedroom led to first forays into playing out the following summer, making his debut in August 2000, behind the decks in the Glasshouse, at house night Full Frontal. Successful promotion work through the year for London-based Wildchild also saw him gain his first residency in November, playing at the Hanover Grand and later Fink, as he honed his upfront, crowd-friendly house sound.
After a break in 2001 travelling Asia and Australasia he re-entered the scene, playing a tougher and more varied style. 2002 saw him spreading his wings outside London, thanks mainly to work with 4clubbers.net (where he reviews festivals and clubs across the UK), rewarded with a set at the Sundissential reopening warm-up at the Academy in Birmingham in July, Sacrilege in Nottingham (recently voted 4th best night in the UK by Mixmag) and a residency at the Dogstar in Brixton. Further hard work this winter has brought more dates in London and beyond, with his set for Wildchild v Nukleuz at Heaven in November a resounding success. The new year saw him celebrate his birthday in style at Soft Porn, and rock the Baby Box at Tribalism for MoS radio; his debut at Ministry was a memorable one.

      Ikon

      By Ikon, in DJ Profiles,

Leighton Howell aka @Ikon  bought his first pair of decks and began DJing in 1997 at the age of 14. Although originally starting out as a Happy Hardcore DJ, it was during a work experience stint at the age of 15 in the local dance music record shop that Ikon was introduced to the sound that now dominates his sets - Hard Trance. Despite gracing the decks at many house and birthday parties over the next couple of years Ikon found it difficult to break into circuit of playing at "proper" clubs despite sending out numerous demos to promoters. So in 2000, aged just 17, Ikon decided to start promoting his own event Evolution. Evolution was a Hardcore Techno and Hard Trance event that ran monthly at The Orange Peel in Rhyl, N.Wales and was initially setup as somewhere for Ikon and other aspiring DJs to play in front of real crowds and gain valuable experience. The event ran from Oct 2000 to Oct 2001 and despite only running for one year the night became regarded as the 3rd biggest Underground Hardcore and Hard Trance event in the UK and attracted people from all over the country. During his time promoting Evolution Ikon was able to push his talents to the right crowds and promoters and make a name for himself, which in turn has seen him earn regular bookings from some of the big underground promoters such as Vibealite, North and Species.
As well as DJing, Ikon has also made a huge name for himself as an MC in the underground scene. In January 2001 he entered an MC competition at the North "Dogz bollox" DJ competition for a laugh and won. This lead to a booking at the next North event, and it was at this event that the promoter was so impressed he offered Ikon a residency which is now in its second year. As well as this Ikon has also held a residency at Species in Manchester and has MC'd for some of the larger underground organisations such as Vibealite and Helter Skelter. As well as DJing and MCing Ikon is also Hard Trance editor on the underground dance website - UK-Scene.org.uk, for which he writes reviews on new tunes and events and interviews other DJs, he also helps co-ordinate and promote any events UK-Scene are involved in. He has also recently joined the Vibealite as part of their Internet promotions team.
      Music Policy
Although listing his main influences as being DJs such as Mark EG, M-Zone, Vortex and Sharkey, Ikon's main attribute is his own unique sound hat he has worked hard on creating, fusing many different types dance music, such as Hard Trance, Hard House, Techno, Acid, Prog house into one tough yet uplifting action packed set. Ikon is always on the lookout for a new label, producer or sound in order to enhance his sets and make them stand out from the rest. Ikon also prides himself on being able to react to any situation and adapt to any crowd and keep the dancefloor rocking.

Ikon has recently been working hard in the studio and has two tracks and a few re-mixes under his belt which are currently unsigned. Despite achieving so much in such a short space of time Ikon is eager for more. His main aim now is to break into the more mainstream circuit and push his sound to a fresh, new crowd. Having done the rounds and having success in the underground scene Leighton is now ready for a new challenge and at still only 20 years old he is definitely one to look out for in the future.

Turning the clock back a few years, in fact 14 years, to when Jo first got involved in dance music: It wasnt really a surprise given her work in the early days of Flying Records and that she was in the shop alongside Rocky and Mark Wilkinson, Jo couldn't help but get the bug for DJing convincing Mark to teach her how to mix, never realizing how far it would take her.

      JP & Jukesy

      By SarahPVC, in DJ Profiles,

JP & Jukesy aka Jon-Paul Montgomery and Adam Jukes are two rising stars in the UK scene especially in their home city of Birmingham.
We both have come from a clubbing background and have spent every weekend out for the last couple of years going to various clubs around the country, after a about 4 years of clubbing we decided we wanted to do more than just go to clubs. We decided we wanted to play in the clubs, we wanted to control the music played out to the clubbers and this gives us great satisfaction. To see the smiling faces of thousands of clubbers gives us both such an amazing adrenaline rush, that rush it what drives us week in week out. We have always favoured the harder side of hard house and this reflects in the sets that we play we also play hard trance and techno in our sets.
After fully supporting Sunday School in their opening months in Birmingham we were both given solo slots playing at the night, this is where we decided to go back to back and from April 2002 we were given a monthly residency as JP & Jukesy and we haven't looked back since. Sunday School gave us our first monthly residency and when the night decided to expand to a larger club in Birmingham they took us with them. We have since played at every event for Sunday School at the Bonds nightclub and are now the main residents with Tim k.
In the Summer of 2002 we set up our own night called Fluential at the Academy bar in Birmingham which was successful and ran for 8 weeks but due to other commitments the night was put on hold. In this time we were also given a residency at 2 student nights, Bounce and Frazzle.
Also in 2002 Afterssential opened at Subway City where we played the second night from the launch and had the privilege to take over from Andy Farley, since then the closing slots at Afterssential have always been a joy to play.
We have also appeared live on www.bpmradio.co.uk several times in 2002 going out live to 1000+
In 2003 we entered our first Dj competition it was for www.bangingtunes.com of which we were 1 of 8 winners and were awarded a set in the BT room at Insomniacz F.U.C.K in Sheffield which has been one of the hardest events the UK has ever seen. With a good performance there we are now booked to play again and also received a booking for World Dj Day where all proceeds go to cancer research.
In March 2003 after an excellent performance at a rammed Insomniacz Leicester we were given a bi-monthly residency at the Leicester event. We were also given main residents spot at the Jam in Birmingham and Delicious in Oswestry. We also opened a new afterclub called Deprivation with Daley, which will run special events on the Bank holiday weekends.
Working hard for our love of hard house and wanting to bring our own style to the dance floor we have had 2 tracks signed to Passion Records and will be released on Passion Presents in April. Both tracks How I feel and H-bomb are two hard house stompers and the reaction to both records has been excellent.
In 2003 we joined Gurn.net's DJ Agency, ClubTheWorld DJ Agency, DJ-Register DJ Agency,  Mainroom DJ Agency and will be playing at their tours around the country. If you are interested in booking these agencies for a tour please contact Jukesy or JP for details.                 .
We compile hard house charts for hard to find records every other month, this is mailed out to over 180,000 customers worldwide, and we also compile monthly charts for our website
https://www.jpandjukesy.co.uk Music Policy: We are real crowd pleasers as we come from a clubbing background and we know how to read a crowd. Our style of music ranges from proper hardhouse to hardtrance to techno just depending on what the crowd want.

All time top 3 tunes: Bk - Bad Ass (original), RR Fierce and DMF Full metal (original), Ian M No way
Worst DJing Moment: Travelling 2 hours to a gig Wales, 15 minutes into the set the police came in and shut the place down because they never had a music license. JP kept putting the music back on while the police were there and the owner went mad. Needless to say we made a quick exit. Was well funny tho J

Words of wisdom: Dont shite on your own doorstep! If you could change the colour of the sky what colour would it be?:  Metallic Brown  Did you ever fancy your dinner lady at school?:  Nah Venues Played

    • Ikon

      By SarahPVC, in DJ Profiles,

Jana only Started DJ'ing about a year ago, however as most things in life, being a girl she kept at it and picked it up in no time (unlike most of us lads who give up!).  As a clubber she had always admired DJ's and become addicted to the music, the natural progression was to get a set of decks! Jana's inspiration and biggest influence came first from Lisa Pin-up and then the likes of Nick Sentience and BK.

Worst DJing Moment: Travelling 2 hours to a gig Wales, 15 minutes into the set the police came in and shut the place down because they never had a music license.
