Nicky Blackmarket

Nicky Blackmarket is one of the original pioneers of the UK jungle and drum & bass scene, with a career spanning over four decades. Starting out in the early 1980s playing electro and hip-hop before moving into the emerging rave scene, he became a key figure in the evolution from hardcore breakbeat to jungle and later drum & bass. Best known for his legendary London record shop Blackmarket Records, which became a hub for DJs, producers and ravers during the 1990s, Nicky helped introduce and champion countless new artists and sounds. As a DJ, he became renowned for his energetic, fast-paced sets, blending jungle, hardcore, breakbeats and drum & bass with a unique ability to read any crowd. Alongside artists such as DJ Hype, Micky Finn, Fabio and Grooverider, Nicky Blackmarket is regarded as one of the influential figures who helped shape the underground rave culture and establish jungle as a worldwide movement.
