Oh my God, just how good was the last UP^^! Expectations were running high for our second birthday celebrations back in September and the night did not disappoint. Highlights – well, there were plenty. StoneBride tearing the main room apart and declaring afterwards it was his best night in London in ages; Herd & Fitz driving the crowd into a frenzy in T2; Kriss Darang vs Jnr J jumping up and down behind the decks in the third room as they tore the roof off; and resident Ben Dela-Peña’s closing set where he played on for an extra 40 minutes and closed with his own glorious reworking of ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’. Let’s not forget the most sexy and up-for-it crowd around too who partied like there was no tomorrow. Can we go one better – we’ll, we’re certainly going to try on Saturday, November 18th.
This will be our final UP^^ at Turnmills this year and we plan to go out in style with a love theme (don’t worry, there are four dates in the diary for 2007 already along with a few cheeky one-offs.) You can expect another night of our infectious brand of fiercely funky house that’s all about big basslines, driving dirty house grooves and those special hands-in-the-air moments, and the headliner this time around will be Seamus Haji. Seamus is one of the hottest producers in the UK right now and his track record speaks for itself with hits like ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’, and ‘Weekend’ and ‘Take Me Away’ in collaboration with Paul Emanuel. All of these have come out on Seamus’ own Big Love imprint and it’s the vibe of his label that he’ll be bringing to UP^^ tonight along with his amazing skills on the CDJ-1000s.
Joining him will be Jon Pearn who had such a good time at UP^^ in March he’s back to do it all over again. Formerly one half of Full Intention, Jon is on fire in the production stakes too and as one half of Bodyrox with Nick Bridges he’s had one of the hits of the summer with ‘Yeah Yeah’. With the help of a stunning D. Ramirez remix, ‘Yeah Yeah’ has become the Ibiza anthem of the summer and a firm favourite with many of the world’s biggest DJs. Already playlisted on Radio 1, Kiss FM, Galaxy and Ministry of Sound Radio, the new vocal version features the voice of Luciana who gives the track its uniqueness with her sexy yet feisty punk vocals. It’s clear from the way she teases and taunts, Luciana is not the girl next door - she’s the bitch down the street! Don’t be surprised if ‘Yeah Yeah’ is riding high in the charts by the time November 18th comes along and Jon unleashes it onto the UP^^ faithful.
Support comes from resident Ben Dela-Peña who grows from strength to strength with every party. You can also hear Ben every Saturday from 10pm till midnight on House FM – check out www.housefm.net – and at his own party Zipcode at Pan B in Brixton, visit www.zipcodemusic.co.uk for further details. Getting the party started right will be Liam D, head honcho of the Hot & Spicy crew, with his soulful house vibe and David Brinson from Affinity who will also be hosting Top Floor tonight.
Here at UP^^ we like to switch things around and after last month’s soulful session in T2 with Hot & Spicy we’re bringing you another dimension in upfront house music with hosts Twisted Audio and special guest Omid 16B. The guys behind Twisted Audio – ‘It’s All About The Music’ – have been putting on some of the best underground nights around town recently and for their launch party at UP^^ they’ll be joined by the Omid 16B. Anyone who has heard his releases on his own Sexonwax label will know just what a musical craftsman he has and his technical skills are the stuff of legend. Expect the very best in progressive house and a proper party atmosphere with a little help from Andy Newland (Audio Deluxe), Twisted Audio founders Sarah Rodin & Warren Mooney, Welfare For The Digital of Innuendo fame, Sam Hedworth (Choice DJs) and Mork (Six Degrees). For more information check out www.twisted-audio.com or www.myspace.com/twistedaudiocom
Back by popular demand in the third room will be Kriss Darang vs Jnr J who took the roof off back in September and are back for a re-match! These guys have also just launched their own label Devoré, so no doubt they’ll be treating us to plenty of exclusive new material on the night. Joining them and hosting the room for the night will be those party people at Fervor – ‘dirty house, sexy style’. Join them for a night of house, electro, techno and minimal from the Ninja Cowboys, LoveFish and Grimey – check out www.fervor.co.uk
Finally, we welcome Affinity to the Top Floor space for a night of funky house and electro, and good times for all. Join Gush, Flash, Andrew Dias, Niall Gilliland, Ben Mitchell and DJ Shambolic as they party the night away – www.affinity.web.com
With a line-up like this you know the final UP^^ of 2006 is going to be something special featuring only the freshest, sexiest and downright fiercest funky house in a Big Love style. Join us at our spiritual home of Turnmills as we party till dawn – all you have to do is dress up to get down, slip on your dancing shoes and make your way to the front. Don’t be shy, you know it makes sense, just feel the love. The only way is UP^^, baby… Dress to flirt!
