whats peoples opinions on what should be plaey as a warm up set at a hard house/hard dance event. It just appears to me that it's hard to find new material that can be used for this purpose. All the new records of this genre seem to be too hard for a warm up. should you then addopt the attitude of playing hard (so not really a warm up), or play a different style (german trance, etc), or play old tunes that everyone knows to get them i the mood??? whats your opinions on this guys?

the word techy seems to get used and abused alot i find. especially in the faster genres. i've noticed that anything repatative and minimal is called techy these days and most of the stuff doesnt sound the least bit influenced by techno i was just wondering what you would call techy hardhouse/etc and if you can think of any good examples.

During the Build up to Lashed at the SEOne Club, Clubtheworld caught up with Tara Reynolds to find out about her views on female DJ’s and her plans for the rest of the year. We asked Tara Reynolds the following questions: CTW - What do you personally think of the whole "girls vs boys" thing? is it just a bit of banter, or do you think some people are still stuck in the stoneage? TARA - I think it’s an out-of-date attitude. Back when female DJs were a novelty (not that long ago I might add) I can understand why people did the whole girls vs. boys thing, but with the wave of female DJs making their mark and new talent coming through, the number of male an…

...for a specific tune, or to make a change to the style you are playing, do you just say yes to them regardless of whether or not you are going do what they ask, or do you just blatently turn around and say no? Obviously sometimes its not gonna be practical to do what they've asked, like last month when I was in the middle of playing a melodic trance set, and someone came up to me and asked for Enrique Iglesias!!! So was just wondering what some of you did in these situations Cheers!

how much of a "zone" do you get in? eg...mozart got on a 3 day bender when he was writing one of his pieces, and couldn't remember writing half of what was actually in it. so when ur in the middle of a set, it's all in full flight, and you're picking the right tunes to build up to hostile or agnelli&nelson, can you actually remember what you're doing and what you're thinking, or does it all become a flying blurred trip? (no dr*g references intended) and after you're done, could u write a tracklisting, or do u generally have no idea what actually went out [pls move forum if u think]

i've been apart of something like this before, bassically someone wrote apart of a tune, then sent it to me, i added my bit then passed it onto the next person, they added their bit, passed it on etc etc - the end result was quite interesting, if i remember right the tune was around a hour long, however this was back in the day when i was using trackers, so file sizes and that was alot smaller then. Would anyone be up for doing this on CTW? Bassically we pick ONE program that every knows reasonably well, or wants to learn more about the program, then as above someone writes a part then passes it on. The orginal sample pack will of course need to be updated shoul…

last week when i was in my local record shop, chatting away to the guy who runs it he said this to me: "its been quiet in here lately because everyone seems to be buying online. they oftern have more selection or cheeper prices" granted the stuff he stocks (techno, breaks, house and the faster stuff) isnt in much demand in mid essex (everyone is into r&b or d& but for me his is the best record shop i've been to. has exactly the records i'm after (rare do i need to look else where). infact he has very simular tastes to music as me and when ever i'm looking to branch out a bit or unsure of what CD compliation to buy, he know EXACTLY what i will like. …

During the Build up to the mother of all Hard Dance events, Clubtheworld caught up with Nukleuz/Frantic resident DJ Guffy to ask him about Living in London, the hard dance scene and nerves. We asked Guffy the following questions: CTW - You were chosen as one of Mixmags future heroes and they have predicted that you are set to become hard dance's answer to Pete Tong. Quiet a complement (congratulations), how does this make you feel? GUFFY - Hehe, I had a giggle when I read that. The whole Mixmag Future Hero’s thing has been amazing to be honest. Despite what people opinions are about the magazine it’s still the biggest there is the scene, so to have their…

i've not DJed much but have a good idea what is going on and i'd like to think i can roughly beatmatch. the problem is that most i've spoke to want to upgrade their decks from whatever direct-drive decks they have to 1210s. is it worth me taking the intermediate step and buying two DD decks and a mixer for £250 - £350 or will i just want technics as soon as i get them? incidentally, if any of you have two 1210s and a DJM 600 for £70, I'd be interested. thats a very reasonable price.

All, Anyone who is just getting into music production - I seriously recommend the following magazines ... Music Tech Magazine Computer Music Myself and Andy (LiquidEyes) went to the Sounds Expo show in London recently and we signed up to Music Tech magazine - I hadn't heard of it before and they were giving away the current issue plus a free set of sample CDs for like £5... Anyway, I just got through the next issue (April) and I have to say i'm VERY impressed with their tutorials - especially their "Ten Minute Master" series ... And in this months edition you get a free mini booklet describing 23 of the essential methods, theories & practic…

my normal mixer i use cuts each setting by -26db and goes up to +12db (tascam X-15) another mixer i have goes from -30db to +10db (numark DM3000X) whilst i don't use the +ve readings that often, when cutting the bass to bring a track in, i find that the -26db is perfect and that -30db is too much if that makes sense. This means that i can't cut the -30db one all the way without loosing some of the higher end sounds as well. Whilst this isn't an actual problem it does mean that it makes me fck my mixes up occasionally as i cut it too much. Just wondering what values every1 else likes to use and whether they use the full range of that to cut the bass?

With one of the most talked about events of the year just around the corner (Frantic/Wildchild), we at Clubtheworld with help from our friends at Frantic have taken the oppotunity to interview one of the hottest new DJ's on the Hard Dance scene. This Dj is resident at Mixmags club of the year 2002 "Goodgreef" and is set to blow Frantic/Wildchild apart. We asked DJ Shan the following questions: CTW - Your a Mixmag Future Hero as well as Resident at GoodGreef (Mixmag Hard Dance Club of the Year). When you started out did you think you would ever imagine this would be the case? SHAN - Not at all, when I started out I wasn't even old enough to get into clubs, so I…

Righty, I finally got sick of my crappy decks and I'm gonna get either Vestax 2300's (which I haven't played on) or the Technics MK5's (which I have played on and liked a lot !). Any opinions would be appreciated ! Also, if I were to go for the cheaper option of a pair of MK2s second hand, is there anything to look out for in the way of them being knackered ?

During the build up to Frantic/Wildchild at the SEOne Club on the 20th March, ClubTheWorld with the help of their friends at Frantic thought it would be a good idea to interview one of the headlining DJ's at the event. JFK is a resident and promoter at Passion and rocks some of the country’s top clubs on a weekly basis. We asked JFK the following questions: CTW - Did you go to the miami music conference? and if so what new tunes did you pick up and who passed them on to you. JFK - No I hated Miami when I went, full of arrogant industry music people… I like to keep it real. CTW - Do you get recognised in the street or do you see yourself as an underg…

everyone i talk to says they find breakbeat easer to beatmatch than 4-to-the-floor as theres more going on in breaks i have no idea how they came to that conclusion as i cant seem to mix it for shit so ar, its the only genre i find harder to mix than hardhouse alot of people say techno is the hardest thing theyve tryed to mix, but i find it the easyest to beatmatch and the easyest to actually mix in . and i'm completly hopeless at hardhouse i guess its just what your used to at the end of the day.
