  1. Started by Mr Happy,

some fairly simular questions: 1) where do you pull your ideas from? 2) when are you at your most creative? 3) what are your influences? 1 its hard to say where i get my ideas from, its definatly when i'm relaxed. some thing will happen (a noice of a door shutting or something someone says, etc) and it will trigger a thought "maybe if i wrote a tune that went like x" 2 i find i'm at my most creative when i'm walking around (usually either home from or to work) with my discman on. 3 i'm not really sure i have any influences any more. i used to be influenced alot by 'chris lieberator', karim and glazby in my mixing style, but now i have my own style an…

  6. Started by Nick G,

Blatantly nicked this topic from another music forum, but I thought seeing as we had alot of DJ's and people who buy tunes, how many records do you have in your collection? There was a guy on this other forum that had collected over 60,000 records over the past 40 years ... fook knows where he's got them all stashed, or even if he could find any particular record in a hurry, but well done to him anyway! I counted mine 4 years ago cos I had to have my room (equipment, tunes etc) as an addition to the main policy cos of the value of it all, but I'll be buggered if I can remember how many were there (nowhere near 60,000!!), though I'm sure that if I get bored enough this…

  7. Started by Mr Happy,

imo they are the most important tracks on the cd. the 1st track is obviosuly gonna be the 1st thing the listener hears (and they say that 1st impressions are the most important one) and the last tune is (in thery) the last impression of the cd that the listener will have. how do you go about choosing your 1st and last track? what qualities are you after? personally i try to pick tunes that are unique yet fit well with the style i play so that it makes the CD stand out. genreally speeking i start the CD of with a breakdown and end it with a breakdown, but it will usually be a techno breakdown as they have more interesting, creative ones rather than some thing t…

  9. when do you set up the next track when your track marking your mix cds? i tend to work on the basis of the next track starts when all of the noticable parts of the last track have gone. most hardhouse cds seem to start the next track the moment the basslines are swapped i know some techno cd's (umek style ones) dont even both with track marking as theres too many records playing to work out when 1 starts and stops

Righty, I can't find a lead to plug my sp505 into my mixer. The reason being that my mixer's inputs for effects are 2 X Jack inputs, and my sampler has 2 X phono inputs ! Any ideas on websites that might sell this kinda lead ?

  18. Started by yumyum,

ok fair enuff every1 has there own opinion on yum yum, consider this matter closed as tomo has left yumyum and the event will thefore close, we havent had enough time to bring it back off its arse, and we (myself and gaddy and the rest of the team) decided to pull the plug on yumyum after last night due to not many numbers turning up. this means there will be no more yum yum EVA! BUT there will be a new club nite, under a new name, a newly organised team (without tomo's antics) @ the studio music lounge around the end of january/february, with a better line up, its not the names that count, but the music an wot u enjoy! dont worry we'll keep ya updated!

I'm thinking about selling my decks and mixer, if i get the right price. i never get to use them and i've got 2 sets,so i'm selling one of em. If your interested let me know. 2 x Technics 1210 MK5's with Stanton discmaster 2 carts. (mint, used for aprox 10hrs bedroom dj'ing, still have all packaging.) 1 x Vestax PCV275 mixer (mint, as per above) 1 x Technics RPDJ1210 headphones (mint) all the above is absolutely immaculate showroom condition. Brand new this would cost over £1300. Make me an offer including p&p.

too poor to buy decks but would like to [censored] around with the music i got anyway... can anyone recommend a good mp3 mixer? i'm using this atomic thing atm that does one-click beat matching which is fooking heavy. but its only a trial version, and you can only do one thing at a time - i.e. you can't turn down the bass and crossfade together. but auto beat-matching makes the whole thing easy-peasy. your thoughts...

  23. Started by Chris Hutchinson,

...had a bit of a 'discussion' on the tidy forums about djs who charge silly money for playing other peoples records - what does everyone think on the subject?? Personally, I think its [censored] outrageous how somebody can dj (quite often a VERY average set) for 1-2hours and get away with charging £thousands for their 'services'..... Unfortunately, nobody seemed to agree with me, although on the other hand, nobody actually gave a proper reason why.... It just seems that djs are getting greedy, and in turn, this cost is being passed onto the clubber....
