  3. Started by Blink,

After reading the post about producing a good demo, I remembered that when I used to do Uni radio, they had a limiter, and level meters on each channel, so as was cueing up a track, I just had to look at the meter, get it fairly close, and let the technology do the rest. Do clubs do this, a) to protect their speaker systems, and to give the DJ's a helping hand.....I did a bit of DJing without limiters/level meters, so you just had to judge the right level by ear (could be embarrassing if you got it wrong, specially as the monitoring was crap.

  5. Started by Ian Cashman,

About 12 people have already got copies of the first two CDs. I’ll be sending the rest out as soon as my poor bank balance lets me splash out on the stuff I need to post them to everyone else who asked — I haven’t forgotten you, promise! I’m gonna hold off releasing the next three until I can definitely get them posted out properly — no half-measures this time, lol. Not being able to sort people out has been a bit embarrassing, especially after getting such a great response to the first ones — seriously, thank you! 🙏 That said… I’m making another one this week 😂 Getting a bit ahead of myself, I know... P.S. I do my mix CDs unplanned, loud, and in one take — pretty much h…

  8. Started by Diablo,

How much is a DJ worth? You read about all these top names being paid stupid amounts for playing, so I ask the question, How much is a DJ worth? Surely there is no guide that exists that says "you must pay this DJ, this amount of dosh" is there? I know amounts vary depending on where/when you play, and some people charge by the hour/by the night, so should there be a 'going rate'? Alot of my friends (non clubbers) rate DJ's as overpaid people, because "all they are doing is reiterating other peoples music", what they dont understand is that DJ'ing is an artform, and what makes different Dj's different is their style, and experimentation. Thoughts?

I only popped in here looking for track listing for what was played by the DJ's at Smile when I noticed that ALOT of you DJ type people make ALOT of CD's to give away and I aint got many. So if you have any spare, and are willing to donate to a freaky ginger person let me know and I'll PM you my address. Cheers guys and gals.

am i right in thinking that if i wanted to get the sound that little bit louder w/o making it 'clip' i would have to do the following processes: * running it though a compression filter to remove the unnecessary spikes * then normalising it to 0 dbz
