Another Night In Chicago ------------------------------------------------ Play | Download (Windows Media) Added as of 2003-09-01 This was based on suggestions from my booking agent (yes I actually have one). When she heard my Groovy mix, she felt that while it was a good house mix, it was not "dark and dirty" enough for a lot of the house promoters that she knew. Taking her suggestion, I ran to Gramaphone to pick up a few new tunes and combined it with some older favorites and a splash of my own vibe. The result speaks for itself. PLAYLIST 1) Remember Chicago - Shuffle Inc. - Vibrant 2) Tonight - H Foundation - Soma 3) Time 2 Jack - Mark Farina - M…

Just an idea, since I've never done it before, but it seems there are three key parts to being a DJ: Finding the Tunes – Whether it’s digging through records at HMV, someone handing you a track while you're in the loo (apparently this happened to Pete Tong), or discovering that rare bootleg with only three copies in existence. Technical Mixing – Beatmatching, working the mixer, teasing the next "floor filler" by mixing it in a second before bringing it in, and all the other elements that actually blend the tunes together. Reading the Crowd – Knowing when to fill the floor, switch up the vibe, change styles, speed up or slow down, and adjust to where the crowd’s energy is …

What do you reckon?... A DJ turns up at a club, plays for say.. 2hrs and then gets paid a wage packet that could finace a small country!! I can imagine that if the said DJ can fill a venue due to his/her popularity then yeah ok.. but lets work something out.. Say a venue only holds 1500 people and they are charging say, a tenner in.. thats 15 grand ok?.. but some DJ's can cost almost that amount.. its daylight robbery!! As a promoter, I'd rather concentrate my finances on making the night a major league party than blow a load of cash on 1 person playing records!! Its not fair sometimes!

@ Camden palace on sat. seen him a couple times before, and... i think he's [censored], sorry i've seen him wave a record round in the air so much i thought it was gonna snap, and when he messed up a mix, he spent about 2 minutes looking at the crowd shrugging saying "sorry". not just getting on with it. if the dj messes up, ur trollied and ur gonna look at him, you dont wanna see some bloke 'apologising' to ya. but on sat night, all he was doing was playing the overplayed too-well-known resonate style floor fillers, nothing special, no fancy mixing just joining the tunes, and it was pure mix bang break build up hang bang mix into next …

Just found a mix cd i did about a year and a half ago, stuck it on and have to say im pretty chuffed with it. When I do cds for promoters etc, or just mates, I very rarely listen to it after its done. So when i found this it was ace! I was playin tech-trance and hard trance at this stage so was quite funny to listen to. Has this happened to any of you ??

The Urban Landscape ---------------------------------------------- Play | Download (Windows Media) After releasing two online mixes I made (Techy and Moody) to the general public, most of the feedback I received was "Great mix, but you're jumping all over the place" (in terms of styles). I took some advice given to me by DJ Mili and made a 100% prog mix. While at first I worried that a 100% prog mix might sound boring, the mix turned out very nice with a lot of energy. If you have some free time, I'd love for everyone to listen to this mix and let me know what you think of it. I've also finally managed to fix that problem where my mixes would not stream…

Wonder if any of you can answer this for me... I can mix together a good set with my Hard Dance and Trance vinyls, no problem...the mixing is pretty spot on for a bedroom Dj. But for some reason sometimes I have trouble holding a mix together with my funky/prog house tunes, they seem to go off beat fairly quickly and are harder to keep in place with making adjustments...not all the time, just every so often.. I've got Numark TTX1's so the torque is pretty good, someone told me that mixing HH / Trance is much easier than house so maybe it's just I haven't spent enough time on the funky tunes....ahhh well only 5 mins then i've finished for the day, home time

basically, like so many other bedroom DJs the moment i hit record i cant mix to same my life. i cant mix normally (albeit it not to a professional standard, but then i dont pretend to want to be a professional either), just cant mix when ever i'm recording a mix. bascially a mate (majikman) suggested i get pissed and do a mixed cd. so i took him up on this idea and mixed the best fukin cd of my life! great i think! now lets save it. what do i do? i fukin delete it by accident as i'm too pissed to work a computer properly tryed another 4 times afterwards and i cant even get close to that cd. infact i cant even remember what tunes i've played i'm soo drunk l…

Saw an interesting thread on harderfaster about using the pitch whilst in the mix instead of touching the vinyl etc. I've been getting to grips with this method over the last year or so, but just wondered what are your thoughts on this guys. And what way do you use to mix your tunes?

As a few people will know I've just purchased a cd deck to compliment my set up. The last time I had the chance to use one of these was years and years ago and I thought that they were crap! How time and technology have moved on I used it for the first time yesterday and to be perfectly honest found it so easy, without even trying, my very first mix was as good as my best vinyl mixes. It was no fun compared to vinyl as there was just no challenge in getting it right. For people that can't beat match it must be an absolute dream, the beat counters just take all the skill out of it! Vinyl CDs They're no fun and it takes no skill and very little …

I've recently bought a Vestax pcv275 mixer and am a bit puzzled with it. I've got a pair of 1210MK5G's linked up to it, Cerwin-Vega 15's powered by a huge NAD amp. Now the problem i've got is that on my old shite Gemini Mixer i only needed to use the master and gain volumes on a fairly low setting to get a decent volume. With this Vestax i've got everything on full chat to get a decent output to the amp. Also the master for the headphones is on full and i can only just hear the sound through them. Have i got a duff mixer or is there something i dont know about setting it up?

i'm getting back into guitar playing and i've started practicing with a friend who is a telented psytrance producer. i don't know if anybody here is that familiar with psytrance but we're hoping to collaborate on some psytrance with heavy guitar - download 'dance of the witches' by 's.u.n. project' to get an idea. anyway, the point? most of my experience guitar playing is college rock, stones covers, pentatonic blues scales - simple stuff like that. i'd like to start exploring and practicing a more appropriate guitar genre and i'm thinking heavy metal is probably going to be a good place to start. does anybody have any recommendations for scales/modes…
