Having bought Cubase VST (third edition) a couple of years back I can HIGHLY recommend these books. I will be getting the latest SX edition ASAP.

 

Indeed, who needs courses (apart from the fact you get to meet lots of really cool people/contacts, and get to play with equipment way over your budget)
