Qbert 'DIY Volume 1: Scratching'

 

Fucking immense dvd - had never really tried scratching before and bought a copy of this to help me learn... have had it for about 3 days now, and its unreal how quickly you can pick things up from it

 

Im obviously a long way from being a 'competant' scratcher, but I certainly seem to have mastered the basic scratches already enough to make basic combos from them

 

Its quality because with each scratch, qbert talks you through what happens, then does the scratch, then does it slowly whilst talking through it and then 'jams' with you ie, scratches for 16 beats, then does nothing for 16 beats (so you can emulate what he did) and then continues on same path for about 4-6 lots (the dvd loops each feature back to where he starts scratching as well so you can stay with it for as long as you need to before moving on)

 

DEFINATELY worth a purchase if you fancy trying it, only reason I did is because I have started playing bassline breaks alongside harddance , and scratching is pretty much essential in that scene...

Bought it from a mate who has given up on djing...

 

He got it from 5HQ in leics a few years back although hmv might be able to order you a copy if you ask them?? Probs wont be cheap though because it was never released over here so gotta be imported

Just realised, I forgot to mention that EVERTHING is filmed with 4 cameras - you can change angle anytime you want to get a different view on whats going on... the 'over-the-shoulder' style view is great because then you can see exactly how his hands are moving on the mixer

a clear vocal (usually a male vocal), thats with no beats or anything behind it btw, will give an awesome sound to scratch on.

anybody got the james lawson remix of bk - bad ass? very start of that tune before the beats it says bad ass. thats a great bit just to give it some whelley over.

i know what u mean chris, it sounds good, but i aint wantin to be the next scratchmaster genius of the world like he was. i like to mix like normal and play about in my headphones. i sometimes spin the vinyl backwards fast when im mixing harder dance
