I dont know what your plans are but we nearly came a cropper

If you two plan on getting wed give the baby Phil's surname or you have to 'adopt' it ( it for want of a better word cos we dont know the sex), to change his/her surname

the law may have changed but its worth checking thumbsup.gif

im confused blink.gif

if the baby has your surname when its born and then you get married , you then have to 'adopt' the child to change its surname

thats the way it has always been isnt it

lou think he is saying if u want the baby to be in ur surname now and u get married and u want to change the babys name u have to adopt ur own child to change there name to ur married name

Think Pete means Phil would have to adopt the baby legally for 'it' to get Phils surname!

Although you don't have to do anything legally at all, I could change all my bank accounts and work details everything other than my passport & driving license to any other name I wished!

yer thats what i meant and yer u can by depol but it will never be the official legal name

ive changed my eldest sons by depol (sp) but still on legal stuff he will be a moran but he can go by the name mckay now. will never change by birth certificate to make it legal he/ she would need a adoption certificate in replace for it

Think Pete means Phil would have to adopt the baby legally for 'it' to get Phils surname

I'm shit trying to explain things blushing.gif

but Lou would have to 'adopt' it as well as Phil

& I thaught changing your name by deedpoll was a legal & permanent way to change a persons name

it will nevr be changed on the birth certificertificate i was told and he has a deed poll certificate but its only done by a solicitor thats all and both mikey and alanis have still got moran aswell as mckay/ bell on there school register

why would i have to adopt a child i gave birth to? i doubt thats the case (could be wrong though)

the same question we asked

the law is an ass

you have to do that to officaly change its surname

and from what I remember it is called adopting cos they cant think of a better name for it

yes I agree its silly when you have to do it to your own birth child

the law may have changed but as long as you two are aware of this 'flaw' in the law thats OK or you could end up like my family with 3 differant surnames ( at least it makes the postman scratch his head )

its phil who will have to adopt so that u can change the name to benson if u give the baby ur name and later decide to marry and want to change the name
