i don't think that's necessarily the case (unless the tax is especially punitive).

 

pot is illegal and there is a chain of people taking risks to bring it to market. in economics, there's a cliche - high risk, high reward and i think it applies here. if pot was legalised, there would be no premium associated with the risk therefore the price should go down.

 

but, like you mention, the government would tax it and, like tobacco and alcohol, i expect they would tax it quite highly. i wonder if one would cancel out the other and the price would remain about the same...

 

who knows but it will be fun when we eventually get a chance to find out 8-)
