Nope cos if they are not native to this country then it's not fair seeing as they would never have been in this country in the first place and the other poor ducks mgith not ahve a chance if this other breed of duck has evolved in ahrsher environments than britain.

To take an extreme example it'd be like introducing tigers into a wildcat population and saying leave it to survival fo the fittest.

This is what has happened to red squirrels, some gits released and introduced the american grey squirrel over here, leading to the red squirrel ebing extinct in most parts of the country now.

Or ncie stuff liek when some eejits let rabbits loose in australia, cue huge amounts of vegetation being wiped out.

Oh and the evilness that are bullfrogs.

And lots of other stuff i can't remember at the moment, you'd never guess i was a biologist would ya?

Thats OK, I found it interesting!

Its because theyre mating with some other rare breed of duck and this other (whiteheaded somethin) duck is becoming extinct itself... heres a report

 

The ruddy duck is going to be wiped out to protect another type of bird.

The ducks will probably be shot by a marksman as part of a government cull.

Some environmentalists think they're a threat because the ruddy ducks often fly to Spain and mate with white-headed ducks, which are endangered.

 

'Absurd'

 

This means there are lots of mixed breed ducks flying around, which threatens the future of the pure white-headed birds.

 

But animal rights campaigners say the cull is "grotesque and absurd".

 

And reports say there are as many as 6,000 ruddy ducks in Britain and it could take up to six years to kill them all.

 

'Monstrous'

 

Bird expert Dr Jayne Cuthbert said: "Ruddy ducks are happy, sweet and adorable birds. It would be monstrous to deal with them by culling them."

 

A smaller cull was carried out in 2002, when around 2,600 ruddy ducks were killed. They were shot by a marksman.
