What do the pop-up have on them? It could well be gator thats the problem as before i uninstalled it i was getting random pop ups also - will look into the registry keys for you.

Firstly you should back up the registry!

Then do a straight forward search to see what files/folders you have for gator (Gain is also part of gator so search on that as well)

Delete / uninstall anything corresponding to it

Then go to

start - run then type 'Regedit'

then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

- Software

- Microsoft

- Windows

- Current Version

- run

this is the more complicated bit..

where it says 'data' you need to look at the path for each executable. For example if it says C:\program files\common files\nokia\ncltray.exe you need to then do a search on ncltray.exe (basically search on anything ending in .exe) using the search option from the start menu.

When you have your search options returned do a right-click with the mouse on the file then goto 'properties' click on 'version' then delete any files that have 'Gain' or 'Gator' as the company name. Also delete the corresponding key out of the registry.

If you arent sure then leave it!

Sounds like a typical Gain / Gator software issue!

Kazaa also downloads Gain or Gator!

You may well have Gator / Gain on your pc & dont know about it! Have a look in the regsitry & check any executables that look unusual. Gain has a way of re-installing itself everytime you use your machine!

I know it has been said before, but I will say it too, get hold of AdAware....try somewhere like www.zdnet.com, or www.downloads.com (I think), I used to have Kazaa, uninstalled it, ran AdAware a few times, and have no problems. I also use Regclnr, which will clean up your registry, and is a lot safer than editing at Sarah suggests, get that from the same place, and then use it to delete any stuff that is registered to Gator or Gain.

Blink, we've both got Ad-Aware, and it doesnt make a difference!

What u was sayin about Kazaa....

With normal Kazaa if u ran ad-aware, it would delete a file that stopped kazaa from working....

but with kazaa lite... its fine! thumbs.gif
