Posted April 11, 200322 yr CTW Members I received this e-mail today, has anyone else received anything like this and more importantly does it work? The UK has one of the largest number of telephones of any country in the World. As a nation there are now also more mobile phone customers than landline customers with over 50 million mobile phone subscribers and 35 million landlines installed the UK. This means there are now more phones than people in the UK! Over 1.5 billion text messages are now sent every month, amounting to one message per day for every mobile customer in the UK. This costs customers about £150 million per month or £1.8 billion per year! The average mobile customer makes about 90 minutes of calls per month. This means people in the UK now make a staggering 4.5 billion minutes of calls per month from their mobiles. About 1 billion hours per year! About 63 million minutes of calls per month are made to international destinations, amounting to about 764 million minutes per year! The average customer now spends about £50 per month on their mobile phone. If you thought mobile usage was high, take a look at landline usage! The average landline is used to make nearly 800 minutes of calls per month. This means landlines in the UK are used to make 27.3 billion minutes of calls per month. This amounts to 5.46 billion hours per year! About 650 million minutes of calls per month are made to international destinations from landlines. Of course with so many calls being made, there are many big companies making large sums of money from so many calls. The mobile phone companies are earning about £8 billion per year from call charges alone, resulting in huge profits. BT earns over £5 billion per year from call charges with cable companies earning another £1 billion. It does however show that mobile companies are still charging an awful lot more for calls. About £90 million per month is spent by landline users just on international calls, resulting in just over £1 billion per year! If landline and mobile expenditure is combined, it results in the UK population spending more than £15 billion (£15,000,000,000!) per year on making phone calls! There are however many companies which allow discount calls to be made, often at less than half the normal price on both mobile phones and landlines. Just imagine how much extra cash people would have if everyone did that! Why not find out how you can start saving up to 90% on phone calls without having to change your existing phone company or even subscribing to any new service! Take a look at http://www.pd-dial.com The figures in this email are based on data from recent Oftel statistics. CTW Sexiest Male MemberLIVING THE DREAM!!!!!!
April 11, 200322 yr CTW Members basically it works on the principle of the more people using it, the cheaper it comes (economies of scale). The set up is like one-tel and planet talk. You pay for your normal landline connection, and before you dial a number, you have to put in a prefix and your account number. You are then billed by two companies - BT/NTL etc for the connection charge, and then the other company for the cost of the call. The second company have low overheads, hence the cheaper calls!
