i.e. software and hardware?

 

need to get a new pc and wondered whether you got one built with a specialist soundcard as anything I try sounds rubbish on my three year old laptop (though that could be because of my ropey mixing...)

i use a pc running wavelab with an m-audio audiophile 24/96 soundcard in it

 

pc doesnt need to be too powerful. my other p3 600mhz did the job just as well.

 

its the soundcard that will define the recording quality

if your pc is up to it (ie better spec than above) get a usb audio interface
