Speed is in the salt form.

 

Freebase is when you convert into a base from a salt. It means it's no longer soluble in water but it lowers the melting point making it easier to smoke.

 

Things in their freebase form tend to be more addictive, I don't know why. Maybe because they're absorbed quicker. For instance Marlboro cigarettes are treated with ammonia and that causes some of the nicottine to convert into the base form so when you take your first few puffs on one you get super addictive nicottine from it.

It is a very nasty drug, Kethers got it spot on with regards to it being freebased speed.
