Can you talk to more than one person in the same chat window thing on MSN? Not that I can actually talk on MSN at the mo cos I'm in Uni but was just wondering.

The current one was taken off due to problems with it slowing, there are others out there, its a case of James getting the right one - which aint easy !!!

I think James said it was to link it to the main site, all the others that have been attached haven't really worked out so its a case of getting the correct one !

I had to take off the Live Chat as it was slowing the box down and I was trying to find out what processes were causing the box to hang. The (free) Live Chat script I had was very good but it wasnt the best written bit of code and did hog resources.

I then noted that it was hardly ever used and people could always use IRC, ICQ, AOL or MSN Messenger. My personal preferred method of realtime chat is MSN Messenger - and yes you can invite multiple people into the conversation.

The other problem with Live Chat is that its ok when you've got say 5 people in there but it gets silly with much more than that because its impossible to keep up with the thread of conversation.

I will at some point look into some commercial chat clients but I haven't really got this down as a priority at the moment as it would still mean taking valuable resource from the box which is already being hammered at times. One day we will hopefully have the fastest server we need and it wont be a issue - I'm still trying to setup some advertising which will fund the new server and any new commercial products we may need, although my preffered method is to write as much of it as I can myself and make it look and feel like its CTW and not someone else's site who we've nicked the idea off.

I would urge everyone to get setup with MSN Messenger as this really is the best client out there in my opinion and I personally dont want to run more than one of these at any one time. I think I have about 170 contacts on there at the moment and its a far superior product to any live chat scripts currently out there.

I have however found a MSN-like messenger which can be installed locally on our server and it looks and feels exactly the same as MSN although it would only be for ctw contacts and it wouldnt have MSN's own advertising on it etc... But again I cant see the point personally on a) uses processing power on our server and B) having more than one chat client running - why not just add the contact to MSN in the first place ...

If there is anyone out there who cant run MSN Messenger can you let me know the reasons why - my [censored] used to block it through the firewall but they lifted the ban when I blagged I needed it to contact associates in the US !
