right - i've had this argument with loads of ppl in the last few days (so sorry if u've already read this but tuff)

 

i'm not scientist (i cant even spell it 4 gods sake) but i KNOW cds cant be wiped by magnets, yet every1 i chat too seem addimant that cds r part plasitic and part metal

 

my argument to u is - if cds could be wiped by a magnet, then y do cd players have a fukin lazer in em?!? laugh.gif

1 of me m8s recconed he could wipe a cd by leaving it on his speakers

 

i couldn't stop laughing

you could wipe a CD with a magnet - if you hit the CD with the magnet hard enough :)

Ironically, Happy Dude, for once you actually spelt a word correctly!! wink.gif

 

To reiterate what everyone else has basically said, you can't hurt a CD without scratching or dirtying it. Just like vinyl, the data actually consists of physical grooves in the disc. Only the grooves are much tinier, and encoded digitally, instead of as a continuous analogue signal! (to simplify somewhat)

 

That's why you need a laser. It can tell when there's a hole and when there's not, without making physical contact. thumbs.gif

ur not- and that was the point i was trying top make 2 me m8s, but when they told me they thought a cd wasn't made of plastic i gave up and went home laugh.gif
