He didnt get the rope "IN" anywhere. It was a long chain between the cuffs and he just threw it OVER the rope and held on to both sides.

 

I did wonder when I first saw it but after watching it several times its clear.

Pirates of the caribbean was knowingly tongue in cheek and a lot of fun for it!

i thought Pirates of the Carrabian was a bit of a cheek film

 

which i loved jonny depp and orlando bloom who could ask for more
