A good friend of mine made this comment this morning to me ... 

"Life doesn't revolve around the net"

... and it got me thinking - does it or doesnt it ??? I'm inclined to think that it is beginning to more and more in fact.

What are your thoughts on this and if it does revolve around the net is this good/healthy ?

at the moment i think my life does evolve arround the net, and i think its really unhealthy! i find it quite scary, that the way people react towards me, affects the things i do or think.

 

there for i wanna get out of this habbit of my life evolving round the net. there are nicer more important things i really should be doing right now, like concentrating on makeing new friends, uni [censored], getting fit, and learning more about society.

 

if you think about it when my parents were arround they never had the net, and they kep themselfs occupied. so this is what i wanna get back to. before i got a computer, i never had the net, and i was better at lots of stuff and about 100 times more healthier cos i actually got out there and did some [censored] excersise!

 

this is all gonna change for me very soon, cos i am thinking of moving house in the next 2 weeks, so wont bother with the net im my new house!

I think this is another area which requires 'moderation' - this is the key here as with lots of other topics we talk a lot about. I dont think you should restrict yourself or cut yourself off from people. And the new way of making new friends and getting to know each other properly is in fact over the net/msn messenger, instead of costly phone calls.

Alot of my mates are on the net and most of them live in england. So for me, i spend a lot of time on the net to keep in contact with them.

 

but i spose the net is a good way to keep in contact with close mates and stuff.

to be hoonest i dont really have any friends on the net, except clubthe world friends, pluse i will still check it once a week cos i will have it at uni so its not like people wont be able to e mail me and stuff!!!

 

pluse why dont people go back to the old fashioned way, writeing letters, and posting them!!!!!

 

 

I dunno, i used to spend a lot more time on the net than i do these days. Went thru a phase where i was working in a shitty job i hated all week then was too tired to bother goin out so used to sit on the net. It finally hit that it really wasn't a good way to spend life so i made some major changes and started doin a hell of a lot more socialising.

 

Nowadays bein on broadband the net is always there but i really don't spend that much time on it, it's usually more of a quick look around every so often and chattin with mates before i go out.

If you are forming new bonds and friendships it doesnt matter how you are doing it. Whether its because you met at a local bar, or because you got chatting on a site like CTW, its still social. Its still something positive.

 

I made a decision a long time ago now, that CTW was gonna be part of me life, due to the old "Mates arent into clubbing" line. So far due to various things and lack of money i havent been out anywhere near as much i'd like with CTW people, but when i do get closer to people and start to club more and more with you all, my life will probably revolve even more around the net, because all of my clubbing mates will be here online and not living just down the road.

 

In that example there is no way that it could be seen as a bad thing surely?

To be honest the net's more of a boredom killer for me.If Im seriousley stuck for something to do,and neighbours has just finished then Ill come on.

Anyone who's on it constantly really needs to have a word with themselves.

My best friend lives about 150 miles away, and thanks to the net, I get to chat with her almost everyday. Over the past 2 weeks, I have hardly ever been on when she is, and I am missing her loads. It also means I can email her the tunes I have been working on.

 

It is a great way during the week of making arrangements for the weekend.

 

It isn't a replacement for meeting people in the flesh, but it has far more flexibility than the telephone.

I think people can just do so much on the net now its just conveniance to use it for everythin.

 

I mean u can shop on the net, keep in touch with people etc, u can literally conduct your life on a computer!

 

 

alot of my friends are on the net and i do admit i spend quite alot of time on here 2 keep in touch with them.i met my best friend on the net and now we are looking on getting a flat 2 gether

i also think its much safer to 'meet' people on the net - you can watch their characters over time and then judge whether its safe to meet up in person with them.
