Yesterday, I bought a standard class ticket for London - Glasgow and because standard was crowded and I didn't have a seat the train manager said I could sit in first class.

I then proceeded to get free food/drink for the rest of the journey and at the end cos I had been sweet talking the ladies looking after 1st class I got free beers too.

Winner.

Interesting point and one I'd musing over too, after they'd go so far, yes.

I did think of that however I think that the name South West Trains is describing the operational region rather than the direction the train is travelling in.

Virgin is a brand name and has no relevance to operational regions

Be interesting to see where they ran if that were the case.

Depends on the train.

The new voyager and pendolino trains are nice, a little cramped though.

I'm also glad I don't smoke anymore as you can't, anywhere.

If you live north of the Watford Gap, you're counted as a Northerner.
