need your help guys!!

 

i am in the process of working out the windows media player encoder so i can stream my mixes but 1st i need to convert my mix into one long mp3 file.

 

I have the mix on CD at the moment all split up into tracks but i need to 'rip' the CD into one long track??

 

 

any ideas??!

 

 

have u got an editing programme at all like soundforge or cool edit pro?

all the editing progs i have seen you have to manually paste each track onto the end of the previous one - there must be a way of recording the cd onto one track?

The only way I can think of doing it is by literally recording it onto your PC as one big .wav file, and then converting it to an MP3, using sound recorder, or something of better quality if you have it. I think that a computer will see separate audio tracks as separate data, so I think that an audio ripper (as opposed to an MP3 converter), would still rip it as seperate tracks. Try www.downloads.com, www.zdnet.com, (I think) or any other of the big shareware sites for some CD rippers to check it out tho

i got a freeware version of goldwave and that has done the trick

due to the technology behind the mp3 encoding, u should be able to just rip the cd into different tracks, all mp3s. then append them together using an DOS command that on every computer with MS-DOS or a DOS emulator (basically thats *EVERY* version of windows and most major non windows OS)

 

the command would work like this:

 copy track1.mp3+track2.mp3+track3.mp3+track4.mp3 fullmix.mp3

 

each track u wish to add u must put next to the last track name with only a plus sign '+' sperating the tracks and then a space ' ' and then the output file name

i'm pretty sure using dos to append the files would not work very well at all. an mp3 file isn't just audio, theres header information and so forth such as artist name and all the other tags.

 

i think you could only do that with raw sample data - not a format used too often these days...

not technically tru - as long as u dont have ne id tags attached to the mp3 (and y should ur if ur gonna merge them ne way?) i will work as mp3s r progressive encription - of audio formate like WAV r not so if u chop a wav file in half then it wont play

still not convinced tho, as there must at least be *some* header information in an mp3 file to say there is no header information. There needs to be something even if its there to say nothing - but i'm just guessing here and it makes no f*ng difference. hehe

last time i did this was about 2 years ago so the technology behind the mp3 codec might have changed, but this is highly unlikely seeming as that would make older codecs obsolete (and as far as i'm aware they're not)

 

mp3s us whats called a progressive compression. if u've ever started to download an mp3 and then canceled it but the file was still sitting on ur harddisk, play it and u'll find it plays fine.

 

thats also why u can use winamp to stream mp3s - its exactly the same princible.

just checked with a m8 - mp3s dont have ne encription (so i was wronge about that) but that only goes to re-enforce what i'm saying
