...so long story short, you're alive to not tell the tale today.

i've been sick in my sleep before, but luckily i was on my side. I've also done something stupid out a 4th story window that a few years later i realised i could easily have died from

I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse.

errr i guess when my appendix (is it spelt like that?) nearly exploded when they were taking it out, lol, well it nearly exploded in me. My brother has got loads!!

Freak! Was he born with multiple appendixes or does he just collect them?

I remember when my brother died for 1 minute when he was on a life support machine after being in a fatal car crash.

Was the worst day of my life.

Presumably you mean his heart stopped...?

When you say the crash was fatal, you mean some of the other passengers really did die?

Yep.

There was 3 people in the car.

It was after a snooker match, and they all got in the car to get dropped off home, and the drive lost contol of the car and skidded a fair few yards down the road, across a junction, and into one of the those green electricity boxes they have on the roads !

I think it was the driver who died, the dude in the back suffered a snooker cue through his leg, my bro crushed his ankle and had to have pins in his ankle, half way up his shin, Pins in knees, 2 front teeth knocked out and swallowed, fractured skull. He was in a coma for days. Didn't recognise any of his family and lost his memory for a few days ...

Was fecking awfull !

Shit! (something of an understatement)

It's amazing that you can recover from that state, where you don't recognise your family etc. You must have thought he had permanent brain damage or something.

(As a side-note: you got me thinking what death really is - I've heard the word death [ab]used before, and I'm aware of such a thing as being declared "clinically dead" as opposed to "actually dead" (!) I find it kinda odd myself - where I come from death is a one-way ticket! I found an interesting discussion on the medical definition of "death" here. smile.gif)

The closest I've come to death was choking on a piece of sausage about 5 years ago, back at university. It was jammed in my windpipe for what seemed like an age (probably only 20 secs or so). My girlfriend was with me but she thought I was taking the piss. It was the most frustrating and terrifying experience - I couldn't talk or breath and I was panicking and trying to point at my throat.

Eventually I managed to cough it up by means of a "phlegming"/"retching" style action of my throat. Shat me up big-time.

Apart from that, I had a scary experience this year. It had been snowing and the snow froze over the next day. I slipped while walking down some stone steps and landed with almost my full bodyweight on my lower back, right on the spine. I slid down the rest of the steps and lay in a heap. For about a minute I literally couldn't move - I honestly thought I'd paralysed myself. Eventually I managed to get up, staggered around a bit then passed out. I had a weird hallucination but then came to. My back was killing me for a week or so, but thank fuck I didn't do any permanent damage!
