there's a documentry/film made about that. basically, kasparov noticed that deep blue suddenly switched fomr playing like a computer to like a human player which kinda threw him off during the matches.. one the of the big advantages kasparov has is psyching out oppenents which you an't do if bloke playing is sitting elsewhere. that and ibm refused to let anyone look at the machine afetrwardsa and promptly dismantled the thing.
