alright heres a crazy idea, an instant messenger just for CTW. Seemings alot of people dislike MSN and AIM and all that.

 

I started building one last year as a first year college project, im thinking of developing it further and making it a proper job like, and also specially for CTW ppl, but thats only if enough people think its a good idea.

 

Im just bored hehe

What language? Also who's gonna be the host? James's server? As we'll need a central host to relay information etc from. I built one in my final year in Java. Not amazing but it was good enough to pass the grade. I'm more Java though, but C++ would be best.

Visual Basic, i can host the server after i build it, hopfully i'll have it ISDN fitted at home or i can dump it on one of my t3 servers. The server doesn't need anyone to tend to it, its just for people to connect to, hopfully i won't have to have a remove feature on the server, and that i can trust people not to abuse it, if not, i'll have to make some kinda control panel for my home system

But all the server is doing is relaying information, there will be no need for the clients to do anything to the host just like MSN. Even though we're connected to a vast network of servers we have no part in them.

 

 

like you said c++ would be best, but i don't know the language and i wouldn;t be able to learn it to a good enough standard anytime soon to be able to produce a project sucg as this

VB would be more than sufficient to build a IM in

 

its not critical software and vb will be stable enuf to relay info

 

i'm more than willing to code this (as i've said to james b4) cuz i've done loads of projects in vb already both chat related and i love a good coding chalange

 

or how about we all code a chat client and jame can deside on the best??

only problem with VB is dll downloads, not everyone has them, unless you build an installation pack.

already have an instillation pack built - a proper installshield 1

 

altho vb should come with and install proggy ne way

 

plus win9x and above should all have vb5(and 6 i do belive) runtime files and
