change the length of a sample, to fit into a length of beats without shortening it.

if you load your sample into your wave editor you can stretch/shorten the sample without having to cut it to fit and keep its pitch

cheers mate, so how do you know what length? do you note the length you need it in "time" (seconds...fractions of seconds) and then stretch it to this length? or do you just keep increasing and decreasing until it fits?

 

because on my video vegas i think it's all done as a %, not as a timed length

 

 

so something sound forge will do this will it?

i do it in cool edit,i guess sound forge would be similar. i always do it in secs.

 

if you make your tune at 150bpm to get the time in beats...

 

60/150 = 0.4 = 1 beat

 

multiply by whatever the number of beats are to get the sample length.

 

don't know if thats the 'right' way but its worked for things ive done

i'll have a look in soundforge too as you can probably do it in there, but i'm told cool edit is quiet user friendly

not too sure who makes it. id have a look in soundforge, id be very suprised if you cant do it in there.

RECYCLE FILES!!! and a compatible vst sampler (most worth their ilk are)

I use ReCycle also..

It's piece of piss to do in Fruity...Just load the file into the default sampler, and then where it says "fit" put in the amount of steps u need it in.

 

Liek a 1 bar loop will be 16 steps.

it goes in one ear and out the other, i'm sure i'll find out myself whats good and whats not. As you said in another post a tune is only as good as the samples you use.

 

might be pestering you for some advice soon if thats ok mate?

Totally. It's piss to get used to the basics in Fruity, but it has quite a lot of depth too, for when you get a bit better at it.
