tony, you'll find that most samples say a standard piano sound in in key C4 - bassically the middle key of which keyboard it come from, you can then play that single sample in anykey in FL and it will sound fine, there are some good examples of various sample keys on the CD im sending you.

 

With vocals, you'll find that they higher up the keyboard to play the sample, the faster it will play, and the lower down the keyboard, the slower the sample will play

In fruityloops you can send to piano roll on any of your samples or vsts, you do this by rightclicking on the sample in the step sequencer and choosing 'send to piano roll' Here you can change the key for your sample to any you want to. This is also how you make riffs. Hope that helps.
