I am a crap keyboard player, but I want to pay live, as opposed to miming. how bad is it, if, using a sampler, you rearrange a riff you have written, so the notes are laid out chromatically on the keyboard, so all I have to do is play consecutive notes at the right time.

IE, you have an 8 note riff that as EBEBCDCF (just made that up)

Then you asssign the notes as follow

C3=E, D3=B, E3=C, F3=B, G3=C, A3=D, B3=C, C4=F

So you don't need any accuracy on the notes or remember the melody, you just need to hit the buttons rhythmically accurately.

Does that make sense, and as it any better than miming, or is it really different from assigning the correct notes to the correct keys?

what you said makes sence blink mate, i do tend to worry about fookin up while playing, although i assume the scene of ahchivment in performing 'live' right the way through, must be a good feeling.

Im playing in italy in august, and have just put a depost down on nearly 12 grands worth of PA setup and decks etc.

Seeming i have invested that much money into it, i plan to do it properly.

and i wouldn;lt call it cheating, jsut call it playing it safe nod.gif

I think a lot of it I will play "Live", but I have a couple of riffs that I just can't get my fingers around, and if I sequence it, some tunes I would just be stood there. [suppose we could make it performance art!!]

Anyway, this is all still a couple of months down the line.

when i am to perform live alot of it will be backing, for the simple fact that i can't do everything myself.

I know what you mean about some riffs being difficult, specially with some of my quicker choons, like a record them at 130bpm but the finished piece is at 183bpm or something, and the riffs are often complex and extreamly hard to play at that speed, i can do it, but i dont know wether i could do it with the presure of the croud, as well as right the way through the song in some cases.
