And what I hate is the way some HH people say "funky" house is crap, when half the tunes they're wiggling away to are sampled from house records! rolleyes.gif

Also, some people seem to think there are only 3 styles of dance music (hard / funky / uplifting) which is bollocks. It's just that most commercial establishments (clubs, record labels etc) have very polarised musical styles (e.g. hard OR funky) which is how they make the most money.

People who purport to love hard house but reckon that funky house is [censored]: do you think there is no element of funk in hard house? Of course there is! Otherwise it really would all be [censored]!!

The whole joy of dance music, for me, is that there is a whole spectrum of music between these main pigeonholes. In particular I enthuse over the deeper/funkier/housier end of trance, the driving/dark/techy end of funky house and breakbeat, the gritty/dark/slower sounds of hard house, the pacier/more intense shades of progressive...

Yeah, but funky house is bollocks... wink.gif

Seriously though, people may like HH and not like Funky House and vice versa... They may use a lot of the same tunes, but one has a lot quicker beat than the other, which may make it sound better/worse to the person in questions ear...

Well if I put my cynical hat on, I would say that 90% of hard house producers just crank up the BPM to compensate for the fact that otherwise their tracks have no energy/movement/roll to them. This is why I still think some hard house is good, the stuff that has some "natural" drive to it, plenty of momentum in the bassline, cool percussion etc. (And some [censored] original samples instead of cheesy hoovers!)

Rick, I agree about the tempo difference - personally I don't like house music to be much faster than 140bpm. But it seems a bit narrow-minded to ONLY like stuff that's "banging" and fast. My whole point is that there is a whole wealth of music in between hard and funky; you talk as if there are only two styles of dance music!!
