As a beginner mate you should go for an "all in" program like Fruityloops or Reason. Will let you get to know the basics, then you can try out other programs as you go along.

 

There are quite a few posts about both in this forum, so go have a look might help you decide

    start with fruity loops m8... its quite simple to use and its all guyver and a lot of hard house peeps use...
