Sheeesh talk about hard work.

 

Been making ammends for the last hour or so trying to get it perfect, and be happy with it b4 I upload it. There is always sumthing more to add after re-reading it..but then it looks like I have put to much on it :\

i cant do things like that i always make mistakes n make myself look like even more of a prat than normal.

Yeah, i know what u mean! Don't wanna leave anything off, but don't wanna prattle on for pages & pages!

Just duno if having too much on my CV is a good thing, or a bad thing? :\

I got told from an employment agency once that having too much on your CV is a bad thing because potential employers get lots to look at and can't be bothered reading detail.

 

They wanna read concise, to the point CV's. 2 pages is enough, no more.

yup. 2 pages. first page is your name dob, and job/stuident history

 

 

second page is why you're great. bout 4-5 para's max -- each para 2-3 to 6-7 lines long. if anything only put references on ur third page.

 

also interviewers usually accept/bin cv's after 5 secs. not sounding harsh or anything make sure they look smart/clean, but not glitzy

 

also doublespacing the lines is ok, because it's tough wading through 50 cv's which have intense txt

 

the 'further information' bit is the only hard bit, and keep this absolutely to the point, wiv no waffling whatsoever (which makes it easier to write)

as far as i've been told, that sort of info doesn't belong on a CV, as it's purely subjective information (and therefore irrelevant). a CV should be a summary of your employment history, education and suchlike. if they want a personal statement from you, i think they'll generally ask for it.

Times have changed when it comes to CVs.

 

In the past, you were told to keep it to 2 pages. This is NO LONGER the case.

 

The reason? Employers do actually want to see your skills and experience, especially in IT. They'd rather know what knowledge you do have - and have it take them an extra 30 seconds to find out by reading it - than get you to an interview that wastes a lot of your and their time.

 

Of course, that said, you should keep it to the minimum:

 

1) Name, personal details (such as address, telephone, marital status, e-mail, DOB, etc)

 

2) Qualifications

 

3) Training

 

4) Employment history

 

5) Any other skills not previously mentioned

 

6) Referees

 

If you're just starting out, and you're well under 2 pages in length, then you can add a personal statement - about yourself and your interests - but this shouldn't be required in the majority of cases.
