Well what do you think, as i'm on the dawn of starting to learn the massive task of Logic, i have wondered what is better. Some say personal preference as there so close. What you think? scratchchin.gifscratchchin.gif

I have heard good things about logic, but as a cubase user myself, I just stick with it.

Try the forum at Sound On Sound

If there isn't already a forum discussing it, i tend to find them pretty helpful

Logic everytime...

cubase is not user freindly....to many windows to have open all the time.. the track automation is shite and the bundled plugins are rubbish

i always find the only people who dont use logic are the ones who've never tried it...

I think you're right Mod1. The only reason I decided to get Cubase SX instead of Logic, is because:

1. I'm already used to Cubase VST

2. They are discontinuing Logic for the PC (bought up by Apple)

Personally I use Pro Tools, but from my experince of the other two, Logic was always better. When I started out I got copies of the two of them from kazaa and logic was just easier to use from day one, and the midi was a lot better. And now Logic 6 for mac is the nuts from what I've seen of it, though not quite up to Pro Tools 6 (in my opinion).

Pro Tools eh! You've obviously got more cash than me. shrug.gif

From what I have heard, there is no comparison between Logic and Pro Tools. Pro Tools is what they use in professional studios, whereas Logic & Cubase are aimed at "normal" amateur musicians.

altho BK as far as i'm aware uses Logic, so can be used to good effect by both proffesional and amateure users alike

Totally agree. I was only commenting on the markets those products are aimed at.

You can make a pretty good tune with Fruityloops if you set your mind to it! smile.gif

i've made some pretty good tunes on fruity (or so i've been told, i've not been overly impressed wth them)

but also Guyver, Lee Pasch, Rebirth, Gaz West (Dark By Design) (who along with guyver these days i'm not overly impressed with) also use Fruityloops, and some of their tunes are pretty damn good

you need me i'm magic E, hehe

wrong... pro tools is (until recently) a mainly audio file based thing.... think cubase but with only very basic midi support... it also relys on a hardware box (hence it being very stable...)

its used mainly for recording live instruments and recording bands etc... its audio editing and processing are second to none, but its (until recently) midi functionality was lame as hell...

cubase and logic are deffo not amatuer progs... just aimed at a different type of setup...

Emagic (makers of logic) actually have a thing (emagic system bridge) you can buy which integrates the two programs together seamlessly to give you top end audio support and a midi/virtual midi setup to die for...

Armin Van Buuren uses logic for his tune writing but uses protools via the system bridge to record and edit vocal tracks....

hope this makes things clearer...

you can download pro tools for free off their website (or you could used to) its the expensive hardware recording box (very glorified quality multi input soundcard) that you are paying the top dollar for..

the hardware takes all the strain..hence reliability in a pro studio...

digi design protools

download protools free (win98&Me only)
