Personal preference is Cubase, only cos i can use it and my mates trained on it for when i get stuck, but each to their own, use the programme that best suits what your needs

Cool, cheers for explaining that Mod1. I assumed Pro Tools was the dog's bollocks in all respects as it is so much more expensive than Cubase/Logic, and because pro-studios use it. But like you say, I guess it's the specialised hardware that makes it expensive, and its reliability that makes it the "pro" option.

 

I still think Cubase is a bit amateurish, it isn't nearly as fine-tuned as it should be. This is supposed to be the 21st century! But yes, aside from the UI issues, it's pretty powerful, and not too expensive in the scheme of things.

The first sequencing program i used was pro tools free, and so i have always been used to it. I agree with mod, up until version 6, midi was a nightmare and I used to use logic to sequence midi and then bring it into pro tools. However with 6 they have fixed it all, and the midi is as good as the others.

 

To be fair, for Pro Tools LE, it is no more expensive than Logic or Cubase as an Mbox with PT 6 LE is £385, which is around the same as cubase sx or logic 6 platinum, and you get hardware.

i would love to have a play around with pro tools, i've heard so much about it but never had the chance to use it. There was a free version/trial version of one of the pro tools apps (can't rememebr which one but as it was free i think it must have been an old one) on the cover of computer music a while back, but it wouldn't run on XP sadly so have never had the chance to try it out

like liquid says, they´re discontinuing logic on the PC, though I have to say it looks a lot better than cubase.

Cheers for that Mod, I knew Protools was audio based, but I just assumed that it would be well midi-speced too.

having a better look at logic on a mac i would say if i really got into it i would move over to a mac, just because there is some bloody powerful hardware coming out on the mac, namely the G7 which has 32 processors.

 

Just having a taster of logic last night from someone that knows exactly what there doing to a certain degree just makes me want to learn it even more. Also with the help of Mod i can't wait to i start to get to the top of the learning curve.

From what i can gather Logic is all about setting up your environment, once that is done you should be flying
