Quick update: FAO ALL NTL CABLE USERS (and others smile.gif)

[22:08] Multiple PC's across the NTL cable network (and possibly others) are being remotely shutdown by an RPC (Remote procedure call) exploit. A dialog box will pop up instructing the user that the system will shutdown in 60 seconds.

[22:08] be warned!

Indeed wink.gif Cept mine looks funkier than that, a mate pasted it to me hehe.

As was said before, a good, up-to-date, firewall or router should fend em off no problem smile.gif Though i would recommend avoiding MS XP Firewall, as the systems affected are MS systems smile.gif

OK I HAVE THE FIX!!!

If you are running Windows XP grab this file:

http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.a...;displaylang=en

If you don't have time to install it then a friend of mine advises to start up in Safe mode WITHOUT network support and run it then. It only worked for me in normal Windows mode though.

not just ntl mate, it's effecting across the board. i think my wild guess could be correct here.

i said the same to phil_raa. i thought it might be a virus/trojen or even just sumthin posted on the net that script kiddies have caught wind of

either way its too many computers too recently to be coincidental and M$ r being too vague 4 it to be a bug

i think this could be a string fired at the pc to cause it to crash. the question is what port is this coming in on. I think some data capture needs to be set up. I'm gonna have a field day at work tomorrow with all our clients.
