If you don't have time to install it then a friend of mine advises to start up in Safe mode WITHOUT network support and run it then. It only worked for me in normal Windows mode though.

if you have downloaded it then just don't make a connection to the net and install it that way.

Does it happen to people when they are running Messenger?

yep, it effects the RPC part of the OS regardless of messenger or not.

And does it only happen if your permanently connected? As opposed to dialup?

dunno about that, seems to be effecting the NT arch only. what is strange is this, if it was an outside attacker, how could they be effecting everyone so quickly?? IF a virus was written to exploit this, it would need some way of travelling, i.e. email for example. Now a worm would work better in this mannor. But it still remains it wouldn't spread in the manner that it has so fast. It would need more than one exploit to be as quick as it has.

Strange. Thats why I wondered about the messenger route for a worm (don't really know enough about that, so I'm guessing). I noticed from Blinks screengrab that there was messenger running in the background.

 

Or its an odd fault, that appears on certain computers with a certain configuration.
