Since Ian showed me how to work a midi vsti , when ever i make a rift and fill a pattern, this seems to blow the CPU through the roof. At times i was running 54 patterns at once and tyhe cpu didn't ever go past 4 or 5. but with just once midi channel running it takes it over 80 and fruity sometimes overloads and the sound jumps/skips.......help

 

i was thinking to copy this mid i channel as a wav and re load it back in, would this solve the problem, as i haven't tried it yet.

 

i hope so as looks like i can only run 1 midi channel per track at the moment

What is your system's specs ?

 

VST are quite CPU hungry, and so are plug-ins..especially reverb because it used very complex algorhythms.

 

Try the following to open a bit of CPU power in Fruity :

 

Goto Options -> Audio Settings

 

Under the DirectSound properties, make sure "Use polling" and "Use hardware buffer" is enabled.

 

Also increase your buffer length, by sliding the fader to the right.

 

 

Now goto your mixer. Click on the left-hand corner of it, and select "Switch smart disable for all". This options disables plug-ins when they're not being used, so i frees up quite a bit of CPU.

yes, it should make a difference. But it's annoying, especially if u want to make changes.

 

In Cubase SX 2 and Logic 6 there's a "Freeze" funtion next to the VST's and when you hi it, it disables the plug-in, and renders it out as a temp wav file. It's quite kewl because if you want to make changes you can just unfreeze it again...however, it takes about 20mins per track to freeze

this seems very odd that this plug in is bringing the system to its knees.

 

i got a 1.6 gig athlon with 512 ram and i can run over 10 copies of vanguard at once with no end of other plug ins and samplers running...

 

are you using your decent soundcard tony?

 

a built in laptop soundcard is not gonna cut the mustard!

your CPU is 1.2 gig faster than mine Tony!

and this is what i manage to run with no cpu fallover!

 

1- VST Instruments/Logic Instruments

2- Logic FX Plugins

3- Sends to buses with more FX on

 

Ian, what soundcard have you got?

while im taking screen shots heres the shot of the arrange window of the same track in Logic.

It shows how easy it is to automate your plugins with Logic.

You get a drop down box on the track with a list of EVERY parameter of the plug-ins that are on that channel. Automation heaven!!!

 

the only other windows in logic that i havent shown, that you would use often, are the matrix editor (piano roll editor that opens when you double click on the parts in the arrange window).

 

...and the windows that open when you are on the mixer window.

when you double click on the plug-in that you want to edit, that just shows the plug-in as any other prog would.

yea, shouldn't really have any probs, as I 've got pretty much the same system as Ian...might be your soundcard then.

cheers guys seem to be alot better now i'm using my proper soundcard, didn't realise that would effect things so much. thought it would just be the sound quality....just goes to show what i know about pc's hey...ha ha
