Most people go through the stage when gaining valuable experience in a club atmosphere. They play numerous requests for commercial music and tunes deemed fit by club management but some of them will continue and earn themselves superstar status where they can get away with playing their own choice of tunage.

 

So unless you're a superstar deejay, you can't play what you want? Is that what you're saying?

To a certain extent I think it is the case or maybe I should re-word it and say that you may play a lot of music you are not particularly fond of for the sake of taking the cash home.

For me it's more about principal and I would not be happy playing music that I didnt appreciate.

I played cheesy music down my student union for two years. Hated it. But I needed the cash.

 

 

This is the point that I'm trying to get across...If people DJ to earn a living then they may be left with little choice other than to play music they dislike.

But you yourself wouldn't? Even if you had no food?

If I was ever in a situation where I had to do it to survive then I obviously I would have to.

So you'd compromise your artistic integrity in order to earn money, same as anybody else.

 

Which renders the first half of this thread/argument somewhat hypocritical.

No it doesnt at all because I only backed down once you posed the question about whether I'd do it to buy food!

This has very little chance of ever happening but that is beside the point.
