can't even load up the main desktop anymore.

 

basically i've been told by the helpline to take it back and exchange it for a new one.

 

so being me, i didn't back up any files (which i can't even access now), so i've lost the last 4 weeks work on it.

all my samples i'd cut from tunes and vinyl (spent hours doing that too) was just starting to get somewhere with my first tune attempt too (30 hours work went into that)

What happened to it?

over the last day or two, after i defraged it and installed a vsti, it became very slow to do anything.

then it wouldn't load windows up well (took ages), then it stopped finding windows all together.

i spoke toi the help line last night and was told to go to last known good configuration, which worked.

but when i tried to t urn it on today it won't do fuck all, won't even let me access the safe mode thing????

 

 

maybe i got a virus mate, i d on't really know much about this stuff , but our pc at home is starting to act strange too, sinse this vsti thing.

I'd say it sounds like a virus to m8. Someone with a bit more knowhow might be able to help you out more than me..

yeah i'm just worried about all the software i have on it

can't even get into it to take it off.

they said they can either take it away or as i've had it 28 days i can exchange for another one.......................i know i'll lose everything but think i might go for option 2

Do you have back-up copies of the software?

yeh i have the software mate, and most of the samples, just not the ones i cut(however i did spend ages arranging them into a libary system that was really easy to use)

i always back up my samples after every time i make new ones/get new refills. plus i have a re-writeable cd that i save the latest version of my tune on after i make any changes.

thats defo what i'm gonna do from now on, can't have this happening again, such a kick in the goolies

i've been burnt by things going tits up before.....once it happens you make sure you're ok if it happens again

actually i'm quiet luck it's happened this early and didn't happend a few months down the road.

deffo not the VSTi tony. Im using the same one from the same file. Just bad timing.

Does XP not do a backup point everytime you install anything?

yes just bad timing. think i'm gonna start again from fresh anyway, so i can do things a bit better.

 

i was told that might be good to split the harddrive in 2 when i get it?

anyone know how to do this?

and is it good idea? half for music and half for personal use

Partitioning your drives is so much better !

 

If you dont have the software to do it, I got it if you want a copy (partition magic) - I can send it to Lisa tomorrow via MSN and you can burn it to disc. Although best asking someone who knows how to partitian - as I have not done it myself yet, James did it for me last time !
