Posted September 12, 200321 yr CTW DJs In the past few months I've been to several nights that are just taking place in the backroom of pubs. A few mates, a set of decks and a fucking good time all in one room. Is Microclubbing a natural reaction to the strangulation the big clubs have been accused of thrusting upon the market in the last year or so. I've read reports that 'superclubs are dead' but as SunnyD, Slinky, Gatecrasher and GK have shown, that's not the case. Is it simply a case of abandoning one for the other, or is a healthy balance of big and small club nights the way for clubland to evolve? Harder. Faster. Better. Stronger. Badder. Smarter. Wub Wub
September 12, 200321 yr CTW Members I don't know. Having just returned from Ibiza, I was blown away by the size of Priviledge, whilst my favourite UK club is the Cross (small to those that don't know it). That's the size issue part of it - I guess it's up to what people feel like on the night, and if people want to join in with large numbers of other people. But when does the music stop at these micro clubs? Is it 11pm / 1am with normal licensing hours? As it is at a pub, do people drink rather than take anything illegal? My final thought is purely personal. I love The Cross because it is so small and intimate, there is a good friends and family vibe, but it is large enough to have a good amount of people. Is this a happy medium between the superclub and microclub nights? By the way nights like this are going, it certainly looks that way... September 12, 200321 yr Author CTW DJs Generally speaking, the ones I frequent usually finish about 1am, are on week nights, and people generally just get pissed. But I've had better times at these nights than some of the big clubs. Small and intimate venues are a rebellion against overinflated door prices. And because these nights aren't about making money, the music is so much more varied. Variety is good. Harder. Faster. Better. Stronger. Badder. Smarter. Wub Wub
September 12, 200321 yr I was talking to Mitzie Dancer on MSn the other night, she said that SS HQ was going down the pan, and she'd been having some really shite nights there? so this may be the case, either that or your getting old and bored of clubbing, so much so you'd rather spend time with your mates rather than going to a club?
September 12, 200321 yr Author CTW DJs Micro clubbing is basically a reversion back to the old DIY ethos, and house parties. [censored] music policy, dress codes, you can't stand there, you can't sit there, you can't have fun. [censored] it all. Clubbing has been, and always will be about having a good time with your friends. And not having to wear a smart shirt and pay £15 to do so. Harder. Faster. Better. Stronger. Badder. Smarter. Wub Wub

Not to mention no overgrown babies in suits standing at the door. I prefer the small scale do's with friends. A lot less monged people flailing their limbs in my face. I don't do much on this planet, but David Blaine has taught me that I could do less!!

Sarah goes every week m8, no wonder shes starting to have "bad" nights.... BOREDOM i think is the word. SS HQ is always good!
September 12, 200321 yr CTW Members To me it's about a healthy balance. I go to SSHQ a lot (superclub) I also go to Subway (club) for various nights pretty regularly, and then there's Shaft and Suction (microclubs?). And then I go to various sizes of nights all over the country. Shaft and Suction are small in number of attendance (30 - 150 people), but we just go bark raving mad. We jump on tables, seats, chase each other round with pointy fingers to make bulls horns... Basically just have a laff. You start to get to know people a lot easier and quicker at these smaller clubs, and you do get the "family" feeling. I like the mixture - variety is the spice of life. w: www.bukeytheloon.com e: cunt@bukeytheloon.com msn: msn@bukeytheloon.com Other CTWers verdict of Bukey "Another Glowstick waving loon..." - @Bungle "A bit off your tree..." - @baby-rabit "NUUUUTTTTEEEERRRR!" - @Phil rr

September 17, 200321 yr CTW Members I don't think you can beat the atmosphere of a truly good night at one of the superclubs like Slinky where the music is spot on, the crowd are up for it, you meet loads of people and have a wicked time with your mates. The rest of the time what usually makes the night is having a laugh with your mates and hearing music you like. You don't have to pay £15 to get in and travel 1/2 way across the country to have a good night. Like Bukey said, variety is the spice of life. This summer I've been to all sorts of nights: school disco, boat party on the thames, wildchild, smile, frantic, a private do at club wicked and really enjoyed them all because each time it's something different and you're not getting into a routine of expecting to turn up somewhere and expecting the night to be good but all you want to do is sit down in the corner and moan about how good it used to be. Microclubbing might not suit all but intimate nights are a lot of fun and as long as the music isn't too loud and you can communicate with people they're a real alternative to the likes of GK, GC, Slinky, SS etc.
