I have just been refused credit!!! Fuckin hell!

Need a new PC for when I go back to college so I just phoned up Time to order the deal that's in today's papers, went thru all the motions and then the fella turned round asnd said 'Ha Ha, you've been refused mate' and hung up on me!! fuckin twat!

I really dont understand it! I've got about a grand in the bank, Ive got a £3000 student loan on it's way and im still working full time (And will be workin part time when im in college). I know for a fact that my address isnt credit blacklisted as I got credit for my Mini-disk player at Curry's and paid that back in full a month early, and I know my old dears aint got a bad credit rating because when I applied for credit for my MD they checked them out.

So i just dont get it! Im well pissed off!!!

Does anyone know if this will blacklist me or go on some sort of record that Ive been refused credit!

Okies...

The way it works is through credit scoring...

They basically do a search and match:

- The details you give them

- The details held at a credit bureau (or several)

If there's anything that doesn't match, you're likely to be refused.

Then they look at how much you earn, and how much credit you've already got. Having no credit already lowers your score, as does having lots.

They also look at people at the same address as you, or have been in the past 6 years. You can get people disassociated though by requesting it happen via the bureaus.

Different bureaus hold slightly different information about you - and then different companies score you differently on that information.

Getting credit from one company doesn't mean you will from another... The more credit you get, depending on your income, the less likely you are to get credit.

Though it's always been a strange system. I mean, until I was 20, stuff the fact that I was earning a fair wedge, a student was more likely to get credit than me, purely because more companies gave them a higher credit score than a wage earner!

It doesn't matter if you've thousands of £'s in the bank, it is up to each individual company as to what level they set their scores at as to if you get credit.

They don't have to tell you why you've been refused but they should give an indication of the reason ie: low score or credit reference or an overriding reason! You can ask for the decision to be reviewed also.

I was refused not long after I moved house, and the refusal was because of owners at the house about 8 years previous!

I've a couple of addresses if you want to get your credit file?
