psy trance has constant sounds 'flashing' like that, and it goes a long way to creating the 'bitty' sound effect.

Sort-of see what you mean, but not sure you can attribute that sound to psytrance originally...?

 

You can recreate that sort of effect with even the most basic synth - just a LFO linked to a filter, synchronised with the beat.

firt few seconds of track 12, pvd mixmag cd....it's definitely got that 'cosmic' feeling (whoah that cosmic feeling )
