Ok, this can be a great prank to play on other people in your office.

First start by right clicking on the "my computer" icon on the desktop of your computer. A box should come up with the properties of the computer itself - click on the tab which says "network identification". This shows you the name of your computer on the network of your office, it will probably be something like "workstation4.company.co.uk" - take a note of this.

Now you can either try and guess the names of the other computers around you, or you can wait until the person you want to play this prank on leaves for their break, when they do, do the same as above to find out the name of their computer on the network - you will be able to use this to send them messages which just pop up on their screen by using the name of their computer! First however try it on your own computer to make sure you've got it right.

Go to your start bar, go to "Run" and type in "cmd" in the box that appears, and click OK.

A black DOS-like box should open, here type in

"net send computername hello" - This is where "hello" was my message and computername is the name of the computer I'm sending it to. It will tell you if it has worked, and if you sent it to your own computer you should get the message appearing on your screen.

So at my work I would type in

net send workstation3.mycompany.co.uk this is your computer asking you to stop pressing the keys so fast

etc etc

It can be great fun : D

BUT you should maybe not send i to your boss, as they can find out which workstation the messages came from - unless they are cool. This is part of the microsoft network software and does no harm.

enjoy!
