for girls to be colour blind?

 

i once heard only the male of the species can be colour blind.

 

i THINK i'm a bit colour blind, coz i get some blues and purples confused...............but then again i mite just be confused as to wot is blue and wot is purple, if u no wot i mean?!

it is possible but very rare.

 

This is because the gene is on the X chromosome. therefore males only need one faulty chromosome as they have an X and a Y chromosome. For a female to become colourblind she has to have both her X chromosomes to have the faulty gene. This requires a colourblind father and carrier mother. Even with this only hhalf the females born will be colourblind.

 

However ne colorblind females will always have colourblind sons

i'm colour blind on the colours,red,orange,yellow i always get the 3 mixed up

this has only been a recent thing! im gonna be buggered next time i go to SunnyD!!

with colourblindness u see both the colours that u are colourblind to as one colour.

 

eg red and green look identical (most common type of colourblindness

 

I'm studying physiology at uni but learnt this for A-level biology
