It's a cliquey thread for people who know about time signatures! wink.gif

Anyway I don't believe in having too many rules. "Rules" are the reasons a genre becomes stale. (E.g. "every tune has to have a breakdown and a build-up", or "every tune has to have an offbeat bassline"...)

P.S. A piece of music in 12/8 time still has four beats in a bar. The difference is, you divide each of those beats into 3 equal parts.

Most hard house does this because that is what style of music it is if it didnt then it woudl be called something else, and for mixing purposes it is vital especially if you are a dj who is mixing spontaneuously, if there wasnt four beats in a bar then it would be difficult to mix and get it sound good

Even 6/8 tunes (well 12/8 tunes technically) have 4 beats in a bar.

There are not a lot of house tunes which don't have 4 beats in a bar! ("American Dream" is an exception, but I don't know about hard house.)

However there are a handful of tunes which are in compound time (i.e. 3 divisions per beat). There was one in the charts around 3-4 years ago - it had one of those sped-up rap vocals - I can hum the tune but it's hard to describe verbally!! smile.gif
