Creamy: you're such a [censored] ponce. Techno is proper music. Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier. 4 of the most talented DJs in the world, and what genre of music do they play ?

Dave (pies) Pearce, (leather trouser wearing) Tiesto. What genre of music do they play ? Thats right. batty.gif

just cos some1 is slagging off a style of music u like there is no reason to take the piss out of another type of music

This topic shud be deleted now because no1 likes arguing about music because we all like different things

I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse.

Liam: do you not think the nature of techno is to be a little snobby and underground ? I don't reckon over-commercialisation (?!£$) would do it any good at all.

Yes, "propper techno" (for want of a better phrase) is supposed to be snobby and thats what the appeal is for most.

But for me, I love the sound of techno but hate the snobbery side of it. As a DJ I want to be able to play whatever the [censored] I want, without some purist jumpin on me and calling me allsorts. I dont claim to be a purist. I like techno, but if i want to drop a tech-trance tune or whatever I will.

I dont want to over commercialise "techno" I want to bring a similar sound to new people/clubs/envirnments.

Liam: thats fair enuff dude. I just wouldn't like to hear the tunes I play on TOTP. Although, thinking about it, I don't think thats ever likely to happen !

Liberator is wikid. Still haven't seem him play yet.

There is no such thing as 'proper' music so take your arrogant arses and lick the arse of my new avatar. Fools. I dont like certain genres but its not [censored], thats just my opinion.

Very predictable thread... smile.gif

Mister Happy, I kind of agree with what you're saying, but I wouldn't go as far as to say "x isn't really techno". If a load of people call something industrial noseflute, then it is industrial noseflute.

I am inclined to agree that there is a very mindless type of techno, which gives "the rest of it" a bad name. In just the same way as there is a very dodgy fluffy kind of trance which gives trance (as a whole) a bad name.

I have to admit it's a bit annoying when I tell someone "I like techno" and they assume I enjoy the sound of a bag of nails going round in a washing machine on full spin. But is it "pretentious" to write something off as "mindless" or "devoid of subtlety"...?

It's all relative. One man's bag of nails is another man's Mozart.

(Not that Mozart was that good.)

P.S. I also dislike the attitude/snobbery that often goes hand-in-hand with techno (as well as other styles, e.g. drum'n'bass).

I've cruising down to Slinky (Bournmouth) next month:

Billy Nasty

Petrae Foy (Godskitchen resident apparently)

Jon Gurd (Slinky resident)

I'm becoming quite a fan of the techno at Slinky. thumbs.gif

'And Moby, you can get stomped by Obie,

You 36 year old bald headed fag blow me

You don't know me, you're too old

Let go, it's over, nobody listens to techno'
