I never said I had all the anwers. But I would suggest that his income should NOT be a factor in determining her maintenance.

 

IMHO, whether you marry somebody poor, or somebody rich, it should make no difference - you should come out of the marriage the way you went in.

 

Okay, if my wife chooses to give me £100k during the marriage, that's her choice, and she shouldn't be able to demand it back upon divorce. In the same way that if I give a tenner to my dad, it's just a gift, and he should not take it for granted that I will carry on giving him money.

 

But nobody should profit from marriage/divorce. Otherwise it's a recipe for disaster - it encourages gold-diggers.

In a nutshell: my answer is "the same minimum/'reasonable' amount that anyone else would get in that situation". His wage should not be factored in.

yeh, i know what you are saying, but unfortunately most things in this day & age, is worked out around your income. I do agree with your statemant about go out basicaly with what you went in with, however if you have children, then no, an agreement should be reached

Top marks all round to all involved.
