After finally getting a set-up im happy with in my room and getting my PC back, i'm gonna get cracking on making a cd. I would be grateful for any advice that anyone may be able to share...i.e

what programs r there that I can download to record my mix with?

what programs r there that I can edit it with at the end?

when recording a mix through the computer is it best to have the sound coming through the speakers on the pc or still my amp speakers??..

any help would be appreciated - the set up I have is 2XNumark TTX1's , DJM600, Pioneer M152 Sound System and the Pc is a Athlon 850, 192mb ram, 20gb hd and a soundblaster 128bit soundcard with subwoofer and 4 speakers (it may be a little old but there is practically nothing on it except for windows ME, so its running pretty quickly).

im probably wrong but you can do it all with nero cant you?

yeh nero, for burning etc, but for track marking you need to install vegas video spliff.gif

what track mark a mixed demo???? Didnt think you could, hence the reason Tony & I installed Vegas Video!!! confused.gif

Personally, I record my mixes into Wavelab as one file, then use it track mark and burn.

I think its a wikid prog and would reccomend it to anyone.

As for the editing, you can do that with wavelab. As far as im aware most of the comp cds use protools for this kind of thing as its a more in depth prog with more features.

I dont agree with "editing" my mixes as I feel it takes away the "live" feel to it. Its not something I do and dont think I ever will.

I feel a demo CD should be a true representation of what/how you would play out in a club environment.

I've slightly edited some of my mix CDs for length (e.g. chopped out 16 bars from the odd tune, to keep the CD under 74 mins).

I suppose thats cool, i meant the more "edit every track so we can get 25 tracks on it" kind of editing. Or editing it afterwards and adding effects etc.

Agreed. I hate trimming down tracks anyway, I'm loathe to remove any part of a good tune! I hate shortening my own tunes too!

It's pretty easy. I just cut my big 74min WAV file down into several separate files - one for each track. Then just drag&drop the files onto Nero or whatever software you use.

I don't know if there's an alternative to physically chopping the file into several separate files, but it's easy enough anyway. I do it with a shareware program called GoldWave, it's a piece of piss!
