i presonally go for the old paint can and the wooden stick approach for the kick. It really gives that woodie sound to the kick. For the clap i nip down to the local bible bashers meeting, where the happy clappers are and record them clapping.

Then for the snare, i usually throw some pepper in an old mans face for that extra power sneeze!!
