Yep its only for new content (although there are tabs in the Leaderboard based on total post count - which includes all historical posts)

The scores are basically increased based on new content - not just posts: articles, blogs, photos etc.

You can set up the scoring to use negative points (e.g. someone disliked your post), but we have disabled that as we are all positive around here    Effectively the scores will only ever go up based on activity.
