I can remember going to Scotland one Xmas and the road being shut on the A9 it was a Sunday morning and there was a fancy shop called house of braur which the owner got the staff in at 8am due to hundreds of cars being directed in to wait there. We at least managed to get something to eat and use the bathroom. 
 

4 hours we were stuck with no idea if the road would open or when.  The snow was so heavy you couldn’t see in front of you.  It was like in Santa clause the movie with the blizzard.
