Childhood immunisation would provide adults with protection from the euphoria that is experienced by users, making drugs such as heroin and cocaine pointless to take.

The UK government announces plans to develop a nationwide anti-drug vaccination scheme of children similar to the current measles, mumps and rubella programmes. (Independent On Sunday)

I heard about this ages ago, I'm fairly certain this isn't possible right now and is still somewhat in the realms of fantasy.

I think this is a crazy idea.

For the protein to persist in the body, the virus would have to be a permanent resident. It's not like conventional vaccines where a weakened virus is used and the body then learns to create the antibodies.

How do we know that it's not going to interrupt other, more critical pathways? Will it negate the euphoria from eating simple things like chocolate, or the pleasure you get from being in love which is an amphetamine like effect.

I can see the benefits for the state but this if this becomes common place it's social engineering worthy of the foulest dystopian novels.

wrap you up in cottonwool & hope for the best method??? unsure.gif

no its all about getting ur body to recognise the energy of the bacteria/virus

doubt any of u really believe in that sort of thing so won't go any further into it other than to say that it does work

"sensing the energy of the bacteria/virus" ??? excuse me if i think that that is a load of bullshit.

I'm not against alternative or complimentary medicines at all, but a lot of them at least have some sort of possible scientific basis for themWhen it comes to stuff involving energy or i forgot what the other one is, but it involves concentrating the effects of a substance in water even though there are only a few particles left in it is basically a placebo at the very best.

Under the plans, doctors would immunise children at risk of becoming smokers or drug users with an injection.

Hmmm... sounds very dodgy to me.

PMSL!

I love the way 'complimentary medicine practitioners' [read 'con-men' wink.gif] use the word 'energy' for anything that they can't actually explain.

Ben mate, your heart's in the right place, but you're being completely gullible.

I may be wrong but I think the whole point of the vaccine is to make proteins that bind with the drug in the bloodstream so that it can't penetrate the blood brain barrier. Therefore it does not interrupt the actual pathways in the brain responsible for pleasure and emotion. Apparently the vaccine only lasts for a few months too, so to achieve lifetime immunity, people would have to be injected throughout the rest of their lives.

Is there any possibility of mutation in the virus causing serious health problems?

From what I've read, they are using a 'phage virus, which contains genes to produce the protein required to bind to cocaine etc. This type of virus only infects bacterial cells I think, so maybe it is safe to give to humans. Don't really know much about mutations etc
